Hi Everyone,

Just recently purchased a 1992 968 6 speed coupe as a fun/project car and am excited to begin my Porsche journey. I'm having a Porsche shop take care of some issues right off the bat, but then I hope to do a lot of the work myself. I don't have any experience working on cars though, so will definitely need some advice!

Looking forward to learning a lot from you all.

Ben

HI Ben,

IMA in Chantilly has a lot of experience with 968s and Odds and Ends Detailing ("Darryl" here) is a great resource for cleaning and detailing information and supplies.

Regards,

Jay

Congrats on your acquisition and for joining the forum. The knowledge and information contained here is nothing short of amazing. If you have a problem, chances are the solution (or at least some sage advice) is contained somewhere in the archives. Learn to use the search tool (the little gear next to the search bar) and you will be astounded at what you will find.

The members here are pretty serious about a number of things. Timing and balance belts are probably the two biggest ones. Changing the plastic heater valve is another good one, and doing your fluids, especially differential fluid and brake flushing. Next is the cracking firewall, followed by finding the proper clutch and pressure plate, suspension modifications, the ever-present electrical gremlins and glitches, head gaskets, variocam pads, grounding issues, gummy starter syndrome, odometer gears, dash lights, etc.

Remind me again, why do we own these cars? Oh yeah, they are cool, unusual, and a lot of fun to drive. And we never have to worry about what to do with our spare time.
