This is a plea for Flash to consider fabricating a engine/DME new wiring harness system for us. I think that I am at the point where having my car run again requires this. I would buy a new one if I could but they are not available anymore. I have even contemplated trying to find out if Porsche has any left over unused 968 motors. I cannot be the only one with worn out and fragile wiring under the hood that is causing a multitude of non-diagnosable (at least where I live) problems that make the car undriveable. We cannot figure this out and the car may have to now sit unused as I simply don't know where to turn. It is at the Porsche dealer who says it works fine when they drive it and can't try to fix it unless it acts up. I have no time, no expertise, no parts, nothing. The car has not been working since the head gasket job last autumn and this has been the problem.
Flash, I will take the first one that you make. Just number it 1 of n.

Might just be time to pack mine in. Too bad the wiring couldn't have messed up before I dropped all the money of the repairs. That's a license for someone who is doing that for me to print money. I haven't the time, expertise, work location, patience or "fahrvegnugen" to do that.

I guess that I am not sure exactly if the desire is there from the shop. There seems to be some resistance to trying to resolve it. Most likely, given that the car is old, a mechanic knows that the cost of diagnostic work will be high, the success rate no better than average and the risk of collateral damage very real. Better to work on a new car where breaking something by accident is far less likely. For those of you who don't know where I live, it is in a small corner of Nova Scotia near Halifax. There might be 3-5 968s in Nova Scotia and I own two of them. Getting anything like this done is a real challenge. There just isn't another shop around the corner to try.
What is exasperating is that I wanted to keep it running so I felt that dropping about $12K on it last year to get some stuff fixed, upgrade some stuff and do a few performance things was still a better deal than abandoning it and getting a Cayman. We just seemed to have hit this wall where I can't get past the obstacle of the wiring, and am not sure that the shop is "pushing hard enough" to get me back on the road.
I'm into it now enough that money for the harness is not the issue. It's just finding one.
Just ranting a bit. "Practical Spring" comes tomorrow and I wanted to start driving.

Yes, I have thought of that but the border thing is not that simple and, without a passport, flying to get the car for the drive home is out. Having it trucked there and back is pricey. Might be cheaper for me to truck Pete and/or Flash up here! I would even throw in some lobsters.
It is a "last resort" - nothing against RS Barn as Pete has been the biggest help to me on this. I just have a few other rabbits to try to pull out of the hat first.

Thanks Mr Archorman! Mick Jagger once said when he was on stage "I'm open for offers - not up for grabs, just open for offers". Tell me what you need - it might be worth it to me. kim.strong@ns.sympatico.ca

May have found a used DME harness at Nineapart north of Toronto. They want $600. I am going to be there on Friday so if it doesn't look all ratty I am going to buy it. They have a few 968 wrecks so who knows what else I might find. Wish me luck. PS - anyone ever dealt with these guys?

I haven't a good feeling about this "used harness" ($700 bucks is a lot of money, he won't even take it out of the car until I buy it, I can't see it first and it may be no better than the one I have now) so I probably will go back to Plan B (whatever it is). I am going to simply look at trying to get the car to Pete. It is do-able but I have to make it cost effective somehow. I haven't yet figured out the logistics.
