New member intro from Boston north
#1

I have become consumed with learning as much as possible about the 968 and eventually purchasing one within the next year. This site looks like a great resource for this rare and elusive model. I have had two WRXs (mildly modified) in the past but am looking for a proper classic sports car now. Something for weekend cruised and occasional drives to work.

I reside 15 miles north of Boston with a fiancé and we are both in our mid 30s. In the garages are a Toyota Rav4 Sport V6, snowmobile (my favorite activity), ATV, ski boat, and a cargo trailer that coverts to a camper for summer use when it’s not towing the sled in the winter. I’ve been a competitive runner for over 20 years and triathlete for 14 years. I also have a few bike mountain and road bikes that cost more than a used Civic.

Occupation is researcher in the biotech field but I should have been an engineer. Love taking things apart and fixing them. That will be a useful skill when I own a 20 year old car!

Welcome,

You have come the right place for all things 968. Be careful this sickness is quite contagious

Welcome.

Stick with the 968 theme, even if some of the members try to tell you it's not a "proper classic sports car"

Welcome!

I know about being "consumed with learning as much as possible about the 968".

Even after you get your 968, the obsession will continue!!!

Happy hunting!

Welcome! I'm in Lexington. My car is heading into the shop today for a repaint but in the spring maybe we can meet up. Definitely read through the boards here, lots of great info. If you find a car for sale locally, give me a shout and I can come take a look with you.

Welcome! Not only is this the right site but as a one year member I availed myself of some of the get togethers and had a really cool time! Both coasts. Look into it.

Welcome to group. My advice would be to drive a few 968s that you may find for sale in your area - even if they're not the one you ultimately want - just so you can get a feel for the car. I'm sure Adam (blau - he used to be my neighbor here in HB) will let you take his car for a spin if it's not currently in the shop. And be patient - wait for one that has all the options you want, and make sure via repair history that all the usual trouble areas have been addressed (buyer's guide found elsewhere on this site).

If you've had mildly tweaked WRXs in the past, the 968 might disappoint you in the get up and go department. They're not exactly slow, but it's not 1992 anymore and these days a V6 Camry packs more power. They are fabulous looking cars though (something even you probably wouldn't say about the WRX :-) and are supposedly one of the best handling cars ever made (I can't testify to that yet, as my car is still undergoing resurrection from both the neglect of the previous owner and the general wear and tear of old age). Soon though, I'll see what this car can really do in the twisties.

Thanks for the offer, Blau. I work in Lexington at Shire. We have a huge campus there now I'm sure you have noticed. I'd love to meet up some time to check out your car and talk shop.

Bombfactory, i know for sure my 2010 sedan was faster stock than a 968 but m not looking to win any races. Just want a nice fun cruiser to take on day trips and be unique.

From what I've read so far these cars are rare with under 5000 total in the US and I don't want a cab so there goes half that number.

Don't tell anyone but if I find a great 944s2 first it may be hard to pass up!
