Hi - I recently inherited a 1993 968 Convertible.  Not new to sports cars but I have never owned a porsche.  The car has been sitting for about 8 years  untouched so it will need some work to get moving.

Welcoe, Chris. As Flash said, get the timing and balance shafts belts done, change fluids, etc before you drive after it sitting so long. Lots of great info on this site.

I cannot emphasise enough the importance of changing all the belts (timing, balance shaft etc etc) before you do anything else.  Mentioned before but I will do it again. In this case miles does not matter. They should be replaced every 4-5 years. Next is to check all rubber to look for cracks. German rubber is notorious for drying up and cracking when sitting idle for a long time. Rubber you can replace yourself. I would get a Porsche mechanic to replace belts as they require a special tensioning tool. Pull the top up and tighten it. It might need some attention after all these years. Then change all fluids.

Again: DO NOT START CAR before changing belts and fluids.

Welcome. Me and my '94 cab live in Williamsburg. I'm involved with the local PCA chapter here, the First Settlers Region. Check it out. There are 4 monthly breakfasts spread around the region, with one in Richmond on the second Saturday of each month at the Silver Diner. I go the the Williamsburg one the first Saturday of each month. There were 2 white 968 cabs with blue tops at our breakfast this month, the first time there's ever been more than 1 (mine). Kinda cool.
