Just joined the forum and wanted to say hello. I live in Monroe, North Carolina. With in the last year, I bought my first Porsche, an 06 911S Coupe. It has met and exceeded all my expectations as a car I have coveted for years. In the process of learning more about the Porsche Marque in general, I discovered the 968 which I believe will compliment very nicely the 911. I am in the process of looking for a nice, affordable 968 cabriolet and am currently negotiating to buy one. I look forward to contributing to and learning from this forum. "affordable" is a relative term when it comes to these cars. no matter which way you go about it, either buying low and dealing with issues, or buying one that is done, you can expect to spend AT LEAST $20k on a cabriolet. if that makes you choke, walk away. in 10 years of dealing with these cars, that is the reality.



another thing to keep in mind is your mechanic. the 968 is nothing like the 911, and taking care of it is extremely different. it's not even really like the 944, even though it shares its heritage and a lot of parts. source out somebody who is already, or is willing to become, an expert on the 968.



that being said, when you are done, it's a great car to drive, a pleasure to own, and worth the hard work to most people. the owners are a great bunch, and there are events everywhere where you can get together with them.

Welcome to the forum, this is the best site for any thing 968. Good luck on your purchase. In my experience with a few 968, s if the price is cheap or the car has been sitting for years u will have a lot of catch up cost in maintance.

I noticed a couple of cabs on eBay, don't know anything about them. The pre-purchase inspection is a must, there are some critical things that can't been seen without opening up the car (e.g. timing belts). Shop records if you can get them to see how it's been maintained, look for transaxle pinion bearing replacement. Find a good one and you'll really enjoy the car!

911 to 968? Drive one, then decide. Its a whole 'nother animal. As one member put it, 'its a Porsche only better"... or something to that effect. And then there's some disagreement about whether its a Porsche at all. (Mostly in the 911 club, but that's o.k. too!) Compliment each other? Hello and a BIG Welcome to the forum. A pre-purchase inspection is a must on these cars. You need to know when the Cam and Balance Belts were last changed as these cars have an interference engine. A broken Cam Belt at the least can cause bent valves and needed head work. When was the last time the Cam Tensioner pads and chain last changed? Thanks everyone for your comments. I did find what I think is a nice 94 968 Cab. Was able to talk with the Porsche mechanic who maintained the car over the last 9 yrs and felt confident that it was a solid car to tinker with and enjoy. He was able to look up all the records on it and felt the owner had done a good job keeping up with maintenance on it.
