I remember the 944-968 out when I was in high school and as is common, you revisit the possibility of buying a car that while you lusted after in your youth, you'd never have been able to afford. I prefer FR exotics over the more typical MR/RR choices, but that is me. There is much for me to learn about the 968 so I will search the forums and perhaps ask a stupid question from time to time.

Greetings and ようこそ!The 968 is a reliable car and a blast to drive.

I know we have at least one active member in the Tokyo area, his name is JasperTomo and he has put up some great videos he took while driving his 968 around Hakone and other places.

By the way, I have been to Ishigaki - were you a teacher there??

Yes I was - an ALT at Yaeyama Koko. While there, I had a R32 GTS4 and it was a blast to drive, but really too much for the island. I'll search on here for JasperTomo.

I am a big fan of the R32. My friend sold his 911sc and bought an R32 and has never looked back. To be fair, he didn't own a 968, so it's probably not a good comparison.

If one wants a R32 in the USA now, the 25 year rule now allows 1989 models to be imported free and clear. However, with supply and demand, the prices are far more in the US than one can find here in Japan especially at a car auction. From my research, it is clear that tuning a R32 is far easier than tuning a 968. Of course, considering that far more R32s were built, that makes sense.

I keep looking on onecraigs for a 968 and one preferably with a blown engine. My brother has a garage in the US to work on a car over the summers and I have a colleague who has an auction license and can import a car for me relatively inexpensive. Of course, life being what it is, it is quite possible that I may not locate a suitable 968 for a long time....or perhaps even not at all. Going to give it a try though.
