Hello everyone!  I recently sold a 1984 911...  and now picked up a 1995 968 "barn find".   It is in pretty rough cosmetic shape...  sitting out in the Texas sun the last 12 years, not started or run since original owner fell ill at that time.  it is very "sun burnt", both inside and out, but otherwise seems to be in good shape.  I will be diving into the mechanics first... seeing to what extent damage may happened to the motor... no doubt will need many seals, etc... but hoping not a complete rebuild!  It is a unique Porsche car... I have owned 6 911's over the years.

Not exactly what I would Devine as a barn find, but still glad you found it.

Maybe it should have been better for a lot of parts if it was tucked away inside a barn before you found it.

Anyway, thumbs up and enjoy the restoration.

Welcome and best wishes with the new project...

Yes, fix the 968 mechanically for sure. Texas sun and heat, so after the diagnostics, you might start with all the belts as the 968 is an interference motor.

When the time comes for cosmetics, some we know have/have considered wrapping (me too) their cars. Fairly reasonable price wise (especially if you do the work, yourself), can try out a different color, much faster than paint shops these days it seems.

Welcome! You are to be commended for taking on such a task.

In case you were unaware, many of the interior parts are the same as the 944, so there are more affordable alternatives out there.

Look at the new owner link on here and check out the list of things to consider doing "while you are in there..."

Also pay attention to the alternator to starter wire. If your car has been sun-baked for as long as you indicate, that wire is most certainly shot.

Welcome aboard! As you see, plenty of people already leaping to your side. As Tejon says, don't fire up the motor until you've changed the timing belt. Good luck Smile

Welcome and the very best of luck with your project

Mechanical parts are not so bad, but interior trim a bit harder to come by
