New iphone or the HTC incredible
#1

So my contract is up and I'm faced with the same dilemma I had 2years ago.

I really like the iphone. 2 years ago I dropped Verizon to get an iphone. Loved the phone, hated the service. So I got a iphone off eBay, unlocked it and joined T-Mobile. They're service was better and the rates looked good. Until the bill came. There were charges that wasn't suppose to be there and the discounts they promised wasn't applied. I talked with rep after rep and no one was able to completely straighten things out regarding the gov discount I was promised. So I dropped them as well and ended up back at Verizon with a shinny new Omnia phone.

So after watching all the video on the new Iphone I once again want one.

So for all you AT&T customers, are you happy with your service? Have they gotten better or worse? Seeing as how their customer base is about to take a serious spike I wonder how its going to effect service.

The Android phones are very good and powerfull. HTCs interface is simply stunning as is the layout of the phone. But it will never replace my ipod where the iphone will. Its would be nice to carry only one device.

Tuff choice!

Your w ATT right? How is your service in NY and around the Bmore area.

Do you have many known dead zones?

Getting dropped calls?

These are the typical complaints I hear about ATT

I've had great service. Only a few dropped calls in the last 2 years.
I do sometimes miss calls though. I don't think you'd have any problems in the mid Atlantic, due to population density.
It rarely switches from 3g to edge. I have a nice GPS with voice guidence.

Been using the Droid for 4 months now on Verizon. Very good.

I suggest the new Droid X (real hot, just out this week), here is a comparison to the new IPhone where they each won some of the categories.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/199844-2/ip...comparison.html

Depends on what features are most important to you. Unless there are specific apps for the iPhone that you really need or want, and are not available on an Android phone, I'd stay away from any Apple products.

WOW! The X is a nice phone. I called Verizon and was informed that the incredible is BOed till 7/23. The Droid X will be out on the 15th. The write up was really good. It actually puts me more in the iphone category. Again, lugging only one device is appealing to me and I find that Im taking more and more pics with my phone. Its nice to see the megapixels at a decent level on each phone.

being a mac user (and never changing from that, as i like my computers to work for me right out of the box, and not me have work on them just to make them run) i like the ease of interface between the computer and the iphone

I think we got our Macs around the same time. I also like how well they seem to make... everything!

Funny thing, my ipod connects and syncs with my outlook calendar, contacts etc. better and faster then my <b>windows </b> based mobile phone. Go figure?

lol - once you go mac, you never go back

it never ceases to amaze me at how many people choose price over function - yes, there is a lot more software available for pc, but getting that stuff to work without conflict is a royal pain - i am running on an 8 year old mac, with no issues at all - every pc in the building is always having some sort of issue that has to be sorted out - everybody i talk to says this is "normal" - that just blows my mind

would you buy a car that locked up occasionally, causing you to pull over, download some driver or service pack or another, add a patch, reboot, call tech support to find another piece of software needed, download that, install that, reboot again, then finally be able to drive again?

i'm about to get another computer - yes, it will be another mac - since the new ones can run all pc stuff, and i can set up a drive just for that so the pc garbage won't corrupt my mac drives, there is really no reason to do anything else

so, i'll stick with the iphone - besides, it functions as my ipod too (i got the flip flop connector)

About "once you go mac, you never go back "

Well, that isn't an absolute. I was given a high end mac book pro, the large kind with 15 or 17" screen and all the accessories about a $5K package. Mine to keep. I tried to use it over and over again, for about 3 months, and gave it back. The keys are in the wrong places, the standard SW was very awkward, Word and Excel were very awkward. There was no value over a windows laptop.

As for iPod, I never understood it at all. Around the same time the iPod became widely adopted, I was using a Windows Mobile phone and so it was already my portable music device. So I've had phone and MP3 player integrated in one device for well over 5 years now. Only thing missing was the circular navigation on the front of the iPod. But best of all, I didn't have to use iTunes which is a bit of a disaster. I don't know how many times my wife and kids complained about their iPods, called Apple support, spent hours and hours trying to recover audio from iTunes that got lost or locked. That is one of the big reasons I don't favor Apple: they do everything to lock you in, you have to do things the Apple way, no choices, no flexibility, not open; too evil, they are the big brother (or AOL if you like) of the tech world -- do it ONLY our way so we can profit from you.

Oh, you would like an iPhone, great, then you have to use ONLY our partner AT&T.

Oh, you have a VoIP app for our iPhone app store? Well.. we don't allow that because it will reduce revenues for our partner AT&T. We want you to use only the voice services we offer, there is no choice.

Check out the new IPhone, the initial reports on them have had a lot of negatives. If you hold the phone like a normal person you will be blocking the antenna reducing reception, it's a hardware flaw and at this point Apple could care less, Steve Jobs first comment was it wasn't a big deal in response to a customer complaint about it. The unscratchable screen is apparently easily scratchable there have been a lot of complaints about that. The screens also crack if dropped from at least a foot. There are also defects in the screen that leave yellow bars in the screen. They have a lot of fixes to make and so far Apple hasn't been that interested since people keep buying them.

I love that commercial. My brother and I would always say that line when told to do things. "All we need is one pin Rodney" Ahhh good times.

Bandit-
Yup, I read those. Whats even more alarming is the stronger demand that will be put on their already stressed network.

They fixed the stronger network demand issue by doing away wtih the unlimited data plans on the new phones. So now you get tiered plans that you will pay big time for if you go over your monthly data limit..

lol - i find excel and word harder to use on a pc - it's so much easier on a mac - everything is at the top, and using the command keys makes it much easier - no stupid left click/right click to deal with - no scrolling menu drop-downs you have to hold the mouse still for or you lose them

i think they called it "windows" because that's what all the software testing guys were jumping out of

the only use i have for a window is a place to toss a pc out of

i don't have a problem with my screen - i use the plastic stick on that comes with the phone, so the screen itself never gets touched - sure beats the blackberry for ease of use

dumb things about pcs:
no new folder command at the top
no open file command at the top
the hard drives do not appear on the desktop
insert a disk and it doesn't pop up on the desktop - you have to go hunting for it
same when you insert a flash drive
drag and drop is almost nonexistent
how long it takes to power up or shut down
zig-zagging outline structure of drop downs

basically it takes 2 to 3 more steps to do anything on a pc - it always has - pc people complain about macs because they are used to having to work harder - maybe that's the problem with the iphone too - it's too easy to use

i do agree though about the problem with the phone companies and exclusivity - i never thought that was right - fortunately that is now changing, and very soon nearly all phones will be available to all companies

dumb things about pcs:

I think your "beef" is with windows OS not necessarily PCs. Many people are running linux base OSs and have there PCs running smoother then Macs

Now, Jumping on the band wagon.
Uninstall doesn't completely remove programs (however secondary programs can)
Windows explorer new layout. What were they thinking?
Windows media center doenst have a simple open command. You have to allow it to search for all media then you choose from what it finds.
Connecting a printer still requires you to load drivers. Any mac can perform a basic print by simply plugging it into the USB.

How about the GPS engine? better than in the previous version? According to Harrys Laptimer I have a sensetional lap record at one of my favourite tracks which I do not belive in. The GPS in the curret modell does not seem to be good enough for this type of use.

Too bad our cars aren't OBD II. There are scan tool SW apps for iPhone, I think I saw a hack for the android also. I would definitely get one.

By the way, if anybody is interested, there is an app called Ustream (www.ustream.com), both Android and iPhone. It broadcasts video in real time to the internet. So for example, you could place your Android on the dashboard (secured somehow) and during a race other people could be watching it in real time -- all for free. We've used it many times (mostly kids stuff), works great. Your video shows up on the ustream site, anybody can just go to that site and watch in real time.

i have zero experience on linux or any other system than windows, so yes, i probably should have referred to that - like many people i associate one with the other - my bad - good catch

we used ustream to simultaneously broadcast the detail days from east and west coast
