Hello All,
Retiree new member from Southampton, NJ 08088. I do not own a 968. I am considering a purchase.
It's not surprising that I've always found this model visually attractive and exciting in terms of performance. However, I have always resisted giving the 968 serious consideration because of reliability concerns. Broadly speaking, I've always found German cars a bit of a frustration. Almost invariably great driving machines, but with frustrating weaknesses. Hopefully, this forum can provide some real insight for a rather skeptical codger such as I.
I understand that a pre-purchase inspection is the best form of protection available when searching for any car. However, I want to know in some detail the primary weaknesses of this model. What should I be leary of going in; what should I be aware of going forward after the sale?
I've located what, at first glance, appears to be a nice '94 manual with an apparent 70,000 miles on the clock being sold by a local used car dealer. Invoices have been presented for much work done over the years, including recent timing and balance shaft belts, new front brakes including rotors and sensors, new fluids all around, new premium tires, etc. The body shows no sign of previous paintwork; the interior is clean. A test ride found drive train, gauges, brakes, A.C., and sound system all in good order. Any guidance as to what else I should be doing?
Thanks in advance for any reasonable comments.
