New Driveway Companion
#1

Finally decided to break the piggy bank and get the wife a new car. Makes my case for more 968 goodies easier to sell <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

After driving a lot of Japanese/American and Audi..the final decision is....

TA DA

Volvo S60 2.5T

What about the Audi A4? My brother just got one and I am completely impressed, especially with the 6 speed manual tranny! Love the color though!

Had concerns about reliability, wife is not known for her meticulous upkeep and I had heard some problems with such things as spedometers needing replacement at 40K, oil fouling, etc.

Several cars ago, my wife had a Volvo S70. She loved it, and (other than a recurring CEL issue related to the gas cap) had no problems with it. Had they not changed the styling, she probably would have agreed to leasing another when that lease ran out. Best of luck and enjoy.

Hilarious! My wife drives a 2002 T5. Great car when it is running, but...

I am very glad that I bought it 'Certified.' That thing spends a lot of time in the shop. Too much time in fact. I fear it will have to go once the warranty is out. The OEM Pirelli P6s are also terrible and suffer from serious sidewall bulge issues.

Having said all of that, when it is running right the car is a joy to drive. It has the best front seats of any car ever made - big, comfortable, and supportive sport seats.

Glad that they didn't put the Pirelli's on it, this came with Continentals. The rest we shall see..it is great to drive.

We've got a '98 S70 T5 that just won't quit. It's got 130k and still runs great. The HPT actually has a 0-60 at 6.0 sec. The S60 is the follow on to the S70 with basically a similar 5 cylindar engine plant.

Low pressure turbo LPT or high pressure turbo's HPT are both very reliable on the Volvos. HPT is just a bit more fun, but doesn't kick in quite as graceful as the LPT.

Great car. You you haven't already visited volvospeed.com, it is a wealth of information for just about any DIY maintenance or mechanicals. I bit younger crowd over there, but incredibly knowledeable.

congrats.

My father has owned 4 volvos thus far. A couple 850's (including an R), an S70 & an XC90.

His next car will be an Acura however. The 850/S70 Cars were one of the last really solid cars in terms of reliability. The newer cars are hit or miss. They have some issues, even the 850's did. Biggest thing with these cars is to gain knowledge on the common problem areas and address them before they go bad. Preventative maintnance is key. Swedespeed.com is also a good source for info.

Great choice, Jay! I'm sure she looks great in it, too. Volvos are like the energizer bunny....keep going and going and going. Friend has a '95 with over 200K miles, still running like a champ.

Congrats! Now, about those toys for YOUR car....
