Never mind
#21

I just downloaded a photo from my iPhone (as .png, which seems to be the default), and followed Chat GPT's instructions for how to convert it to a .jpeg.  Here goes my attempt to copy it here:

Arg.  Another error:  "You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community".  I really had high hope for this. Thanks for taking the time to try to help me out.  Jay, you might as well go ahead and delete this thread, as this looks pretty hopeless.

It's a miracle!  As with most things tech-related, the solution turned out to be simple:  Converting the format to .jpeg was the key (thanks, Inked), and then I had to attach the picture as an attachment, as opposed to copying it and pasting it into the body of the message.  I had tried different things Chat GPT was recommending, and since attaching the image as an attachment never worked, I gave up on that approach, and tried pasting it into the body instead, before trying attaching it as an attachment after doing the .jpeg conversion.

Now that I can attach images, I'm going to play around with the quality and sizing settings to optimize the look of the image, so bear with me as I try a few different variations.  Thanks again to everyone for helping, particularly to Inked.  See, you're not as much of a Luddite as you think  B)

Cool. Glad you got it figured out.

Yes you have to "add it to post"

That took me a while to figure out as well when I first got here.

Where did the louvered hood come from?

There are two keys I found to be able to post images to this forum:

1. The picture has to be converted to .jpeg form.  One a Mac, it turns out that this is very easy to do using a feature that's native to the Mac - no need to download any external software.  I don't know how this works on a PC, but I'm sure it's straightforward.  I had no idea about this, and would still be in the wilderness if Inked hadn't have pointed this out to me.

2.  You have to attach the image as an attachment, as opposed to copying and pasting it into the body of the post.

As far as the louvers, I'm afraid I don't remember who I got them from, and I threw out most of my 968 records during the move from Texas to California.  It wasn't hard to find them, though.

There are several ways to convert an image to a .jpeg on a pc but none of them are straightforward lol...

I use photoshop. I am sure there are other ways.

Yes adding it as an attachment is the way to go.

When you try to copy something you get the little broken image icon...

If only someone would make software self explanatory and user friendly. I remember when windows first came out, people called it a "Funny clown suit for DOS" .

Now the above was added with attach to post, but not inserted into post...

This one was done with add to post...
