Need some purchase advice
#41

Another small efficient car I used to like was the BMW 318ti Sport. That would probably be a hard one to find.

This morning coming into work with a cement truck in front of me (heavy traffic, long stretches with stop lights) there was a chunk of someone's exhaust in the road. You couldn't see it until the person in front of you ran over it or tried to dodge it, and with the cement truck in front of me I had no idea until it kicked out from behind the cement truck and I was on top of it. Heard it banging the bottom of the car as it went underneath...

At which time...while seeing the "OH *&^R!*@!" expression on the guys face behind me...I thought of this thread again. I smiled, thought of my 968 safe and snug at home in her garage, and said to myself...

"Self - I love this Ford."

I will say though that we just recently leased a Saab wagon for my wife to commute in - she was driving an X5 (which I loved) but she wanted something lower to the ground, not such a heavy rear door, wagon (needed space for some of the work she does), and something that was getting better than 15 mpg. We looked at Audi - both A3 and A4 and I personally liked them...but not enough room in either for her. I am not recommending the Saab per se - but I will say it has begun to grow on me for a wagon and she loves it.

So, I think I am going to look at a car this weekend. NOT what I need, but I am afraid I won't be able to live without it...

Well, decided on a car. Maybe I will wait and post pics of them together.

Well, I ended up with what I wanted and not what I needed. I'll use the 968 as a DD and save this one for ocasional use.

Late 95 993 C4. Aventurine Green Metallic over black. All stock for now, but mods being planned in the near future.

Haven't added to my Photobucket yet.

Great choice Barth! I love the 993 and think it will be a good investment as the last of the air-cooled Porsche models. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Heh, these things are never investments!

Got an issue with the 968 tranny now. Barely will go into and out of 3rd. I imagine a synchro issue. Down for a week and a tranny pull, I'm sure. Any pointers there?

If it is the synchro on 3rd I'd have the R/P issue checked too. One less thing to worry about.

Although your wallet will end up much lighter.

You can save some cash buy pulling the tranny yourself.

R&P already replaced (I think under warranty) on mine.

That's an idea, though one I am not keen on. My mechanic might find something simpler before pulling.
