This self-idolizing is starting to make me ill.

Well we sure touched a nerve here. Again perhaps we should leave it as some long some type of auto racing and others like other types of auto racing. I think that's a pretty bland way of covering everyone's opinions without any hopefully unintended misunderstandings of the written word.

Jay. Charm? We don't now have to refer to him as charming do we? How about the word personality? Lol

Figure it out ,Cloud.

I enjoy NASCAR. I dislike the standardization of the cars. If they are not rear drive, longit, v-8 in the showroom, then they should not be allowed.

I also enjoy watching Trans-Am, australian v-8 supercars, motorcycle racing, Grand Prix, water sking, snow sking, mud bogging, tractor pulls, pork rinds, beer, wine in a box, lobster, supercross, go-carting,have been known to watch foot, base and basket----ball.

I have 2 968's a 951, and a 1969 Camaro, used to drive a Chevy and a Ford truck, rode Jap bikes and Harleys.

Have lived in Ga., Ca.,and NC. Have gone on wine tastings in So. Cal.,driven the Ortega Hiway, been to punk and rock clubs in LA....in the early 80's.

I drive up to the house on a dirt road.

Saw transvestites, in Singapore (before I knew what one was, thanks to my poor uneducated Nascar watching pork rind etin' self) that would rival any European mail-order bride.

My grandparents families were farmers in the Dakotas and in the south, my Grandfather could have beaten most of you at chess. I was proud to visit them and listen to their stories.

My remaining Grandparent is 95, I visit several times a week. Her 1st cousins were Lawrence and (Tommy?.been a while since seening the pic.) Welk.

Speaking of WTF, uthant? What the hell is that? An Island in New York?

Personally, I am amazed at the Flassh worshiping some of the people on this forum display. Pretty sad. But I didn't "start college at 14". But I could print a nice fake diploma.

Time to leave this uppity, cognac swillin', cigar club member, forum. Gene buddy, you keep it up.

I have seen more drunken idiots at the vip lounge at the Long Beach Grand Prix than any Nascar race. I have a heat shield on my 968 tip that came stock. Looks like the one that is sold on d1r website. Along with some other items that are similar to other products on other sites.

I notice flassh's car has blown up twice now. Head gasket failure, now bent rods? Of course it was due to weak rods and an old head gasket.

Buy at your own risk people.

That's really unfortunate. It will say a lot if you leave as you indicated, and it will say even more if you come back to lurk and post "rebuttals" after such a post.

lol - yeah - judging and entire group of obviously diverse individuals and making such a decision based entirely on one - yeah - we need more of that

this has been an great conversation though. i love stirring up the pot to see what rises. i do that periodically just to see what happens. debate is a keen interest and passtime.

as if nascar made any difference in my life or had any influence on what i thought of an individual. that's just silly. do i think it's pedestrian, sure. i look at that much as i look at NFL though. i don't watch football either, and find it rather ridiculous when people are avid fans. yet i still throw a superbowl party every year.

so what? i do a lot of things that others would find out of their realm of comprehension. what does that mean?

and my car never blew up. sure i damaged some things exceeding the boost limits of the components while developing the supercharger kit, but i changed the head gasket way before it showed any external signs of having an issue. i only found it bad because we pulled the head to try to resolve the oil consumption issue, which turned out to be rod related

whatever

Wow - looks like I missed a bit of a blood bath. I'll watch pretty much any motor sport at least once. Been to a number of different races as a spectator. Indy oval and street race, Sprint Cup big track and short track, dirt jumping trucks of some sort in Chula Vista. My favorite were the low budget short tracks of western PA and Ohio. They were junior NASCAR racers (ASA as I recall). Those races were a blast because you could see everything, hear everything, and smell everything. My boys and I loved it. We used to wager on the winner like horses.

Just entertainment. I don't think that a little light entertainment defines any of us. Shoot I've got Duke v. FSA on the tube and I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a basketball.

Yeah, no s***..I have the thickest skin of just about anyone I know, but when I see a remark categorizing an entire forum as "elitist" based on just a couple of posts where enjoying a glass of scotch or cognac and/or a cigar at the end of a great annual 968 gtg was mentioned by a handful of us, or taking some good natured fun poked at the expense of NASCAR too seriously, or accusing ( again, everyone at large..) this forum of idolizing any given individual here and suggesting members shy away from opposing views is not only completely wrong, but the statement was so idiotic , I felt compelled to reply with a dismissive, and hearty " Fu*k Off " .

I almost jumped out of my velvet slippers and nearly spilled the glass of calvados on my smoking jacket when reading his post. :-)

Bahahaha. Agree, or disagree...you guys are alright here man. Obviously Im not the wine n cheese type, but all you guys here have always been civil, and open minded(which isnt something I can say about RL. And generally only say good things, or nothing at all. I enjoy the dialogue, regardless of our cultural differences. I believe discourse is important whether people agree or not, its hard not to ruffle feathers sometimes. Arrogant? Snob? Ive been called those things before, and in many ways I am, and have been. Elitist? I can honestly say Ive never been accused of that. This is a first. LOL Im tempted to enjoy a Montecristo IV now just because. They are getting old, I very rarely smoke. I have one in a humidor..a Patel decade I think too, and no I wont be emptying it, and filling it with weed.

But yeah, if RL suits your fancy....by all means. Theyll love to yuck it up with you about putting a antiquated pushrod truck engine in a fine German GT.

Im not saying Flash isnt a character, but he knows his sh!t, and for that alone he has my respect, if nothing else. But for the record..turbos are better than SC's Flash. Hehehe, so much for not speaking your mind huh?

Wow, we have become the nation of the eternally offended. I think I will take my elitist a*s and have a glass of Macallan 18 year old. After all, it's the second best 18 year old I ever had.

Flash sucks! There, I've just ended this idol worship business once and for all

Also, I just realized that I must the the worst kind of elitist of all, because I seem to be the only one who didn't get what 951968 meant in his post #60, making me an elitist without even knowing I was one!

Ya know as an observer of human nature and behavior I gots to say Yooz guy is da best. I have repeatedly watched conversations evolve where divergent opinions, some quite strong and opinionated are evidenced. Whats pretty cool is we express, agree and disagree. No one takes offense at someone's opinion that is remarkably different than their own. I have met a few of you guys and apart from that elitist cognac sipping ceegar smoking snob DS, who I look forward to meeting at Paso Robles, for a non joining introvert I am impressed. DS just joking of course! For those who disagree I respect your opinion, what's important is to respect those opinions different than your own. Unless of course your a Democrat who works in DC. Oops sorry! For the gentleman who wanted to leave, reconsider. Where else do you get the opportunity to express opinions that might differ from others without getting into a knock down disagreement? And for those who disagree with me, well too bad for you!

robadams56-

Macallan 12 is pretty nice as well. I'm not really sure what happens in the additional 6 years, but the Macallan 18 just did not work for me. Can you taste the difference?

951968-

that list of things you like (wine in a box is better than no wine at all) is truly excellent. stick around. I for one appreciate a spirited dialogue that involves insults, stereotypes, and apologies to boot.

we can get carried away from time to time, but I think the only thing we really "worship" is the car and the folks that designed and built it.

@ Scott, The truth is I like the Macallan 12 better than the 18 because it has a smoky flavor. But my veiled attempt at humor (if you read it the right way) would have made me sound like a pedofile, so I chose 18.

Oh, wait a minute......I'm confused. Isn't that everyone's perception of the fans that attend Nascar races??!!

Without opinions, this forum would be about as exciting as reading the instruction manual for a basketball. Oh wait, I don't mean to offend anyone who might be a basketball enthusiast....
