MY TIPTRONIC GONE CRAZY!!!
#1

Hello everybody! I have a problem that i would like to share with you. i have an 1993 coupe 968, and from a year now the tiptronic gearbox has gone mad. The problem is that u start driving the car, and suddenly without no warning the gearbox go to the safety mode. It gets blocked in one gear and until you dont stop the car, turn it of, take the key of and restart the engine, it wont reset the computer. But the thing is that its getting worse. I changed the filter, the oil, but it seems to me that this is an electronic failure.

Know i already ordered the tiptronic sensor from an US supplier (i live in Brazil) and hope that this will finsh the problem.

what do you think about it?

tks a lot

I had a BMW that had the same problem and I traced it to the TCM (Transmission Control Module) which is the tranny computer. It was overheating in it's home by the fire wall (in engine bay)(not sure where on 968). I insulated it and made a heat shield and the problem went away. It only occured with hot days which aided my troubleshooting. Hope that what ever your solution, it's an easy one. Good luck.

It's almost certainly an electrical issue. Search for past posts by me on this. Had the same problem, and it turned out the TCM was shutting down due to spikes in the power being sent to it. New battery cable solved the problem and it's never come back.
