Well, here is the temp ride I've been using. I know it isn't a 968, but hey, it is all in the family, and I know a couple others here on the forum have 944s in addition to their main cars. It has been a good car, had it for about 3 months now. Although this showroom usually has only 968s, I figured it might be good to show this one as well.
'84, stock except for
- 10 speaker nice stereo system.
- Aftermarket Clifford alarm, hey remember those, they were hot in the '80s.
Black everything
Very clean, paint, seats, carpets basically flawless, only 68K miles, used to be a Concours car for PO 2 owners back.
Slower than 968s, but still nice power
Good gas mileage, got 33 mpg once on all freeway run.
Been doing lots of detail repairs, a few more to go (like the silly auto radio antenna that always jam).
Of course all the stuff is older generation compared to 968: dash, suspension, etc.
So maybe some forum members are interested in these as well. I got it for less the $5K, so these older 944s are a very good value. Of course many of them are beat up, neglected, modified, so I believe ya gotta find a better one, and the better ones don't go for much more than the marginal ones. But also wish I had waited for a 951. Nice to have a stick (vs my 968 tip), teaching my son how to drive it, he is doing well with the stick.

Thanks Flash, edited original post to insert the pics, for some reason I couldn't see the add reply when I did the new post, but now it was there when I selected edit. And oh, have a wonderful time on the Paso Robles run, the San Diego guys sent me an invite to come along absent my 968, but can't make it, will be thinking of ya'll.

nice 44. They look so good in blk. My neighbor has one with some 17" 911 rims and the turbo front bumper. Really nice.
I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!
Synch the 44 looks fantastic. I really like the retro blinkers on the front - always have even before they were retro.
A very nice ride indeed. When do I get to see it in the steel?
Hey Joe, it is time, how about 10:00 Saturday morning June 21st? Or a week later? I'd like to invite the other SD folks as well (Rick?, SDDave?, who am I missing?), or anybody for the matter who wants to drive here, LA area guys?, would be fun to see a few 968s in the driveway. I'll get coffee, muffins and stuff, we'll do tool-time at Roland's. Flash, you should be able to get here in less than an hour on a Sat. morning (assuming you can keep your beast at speed limit! ). I'll send PMs. The 968 will be available for inspection of course, if you can tolerate the scratched paint, missing plastic panels, broken lights -- no crying allowed . I could use some fixit advice on it.
Thanks all for the kind words about the car. It took some weeks to grow on me, but like was said, is really a nice commuter, around town, etc. Just not so smooth as the 968. 968s are like cool jazz, this 944 is more like hip-hop.

Hey Roland,
That's a great looking car! The Fuchs rims are timeless. I used to get fantastic mileage in my '87 944, much
better than the 968. My front bumper was moved in about 2 inches and it improved the look a great deal.
Best of luck with it, it's a classic!
Dave,
You should get one for a commuter!
If only I had a inexpensive mechanic or could do the work myself. I did see one for 3500 once and the body, at least, was in good condition (didn't drive the car)

Keep looking...if you find one that you really can't pass up, my mechanic and I can probably help you with stuff. We trade a lot of labor back and forth, so the stuff I can't do, he can! Send me a PM or I think I may have given you my contact info prior, so just give a ring. I always keep my eyes open for deals too good to pass up...
