HI, I just purchased my first 968, have been looking long time for it. I have a lot of work to do on it, so I figured I am going to need all the information I can get.

My car is cobalt blue coupe with manual. I would like to restore it to perfect condition, odometer is broken at 99,000, already ordered the gears for it.

In school we were told that " practice makes perfect " . But then they also said " nobody is perfect " . So I stopped practicing, what would be the point <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.png" class="smilie" alt="" />



Back to the 968 - great car, great color, especially in Miami. And whatever you spend to bring it to your definition of perfect , with mods that might add up to a pricey sum, I think you'll still end up with a car which in terms of looks, performance, practicability, comfort, exclusivity, has no comparable out there you could find for under $ 75 k . IMO

One more thing about Ian. He is a stand up guy and his crew Steve and Jamie are the same way. If you have any questions about your car don't hesitate to give him a call. He will NEVER give you a line of BS just to sell you some parts! I could write a long drawn out page on why you don't have to question anything he tells you. So to make it short, what ever he tells you, you can trust 100%.

DE is usually Driver Education. It's a regular event for a lot of car clubs.

Car is obviously amazing!!!!

The good: engine, transmission.

The bad: windows, ac, trunk, seats, dashboard lights and sunroof are not operational.

brakes are pretty bad, and the motor mounts could use help.

other then that all is well, its a joy to drive. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

I looked for one for well over a year, and I picked my cab up a little over a month ago. Rarely does a day go by without someone making a comment on how good these Porsche's look, or ask what year it is or what model it is. People with far more expensive cars stop to look at it in parking lots.



This forum has been amazing. I figured out how to replace the stereo with the help of a diagram found here. I have been troubleshooting the gas smell based on the comments here, and I learned that the grinding brakes (pads and rotors are new) are just something you have to get used to. I also learned to CHECK THE BATTERY CABLES! because these cars can catch fire and we really don't want that. Mine were fine, but the alternator wire is toast (literally).



So, the bottom line is this place is stocked with some amazingly informed and experienced 968 owners, and they are more than willing to share their experiences with everyone. I think the Porsche community is unique in this respect, and the 968 board is a great example of people helping eachother out in the interest of the preservation and improvement of one of the most under recognized cars ever built.

As to the gas smell problem. Not a fix butI filled my car up to three quarters and voila no smell. So maybe if you don't fill it up it is at least an improvement!
