Greetings forum friends,



I remain, after almost 3 long years, in the market for a 968. My ideal is a coupe, any year, under 125k miles, black, tan, or grey interior, and anything except red exterior.



Let me know if you want to pass on your beloved 968 to a fresh-faced enthusiast who will take great care of your car, or if you hear any faint whispers or rumors of a coupe on the market!



I am in the DC area, and the closer the car is the better, but I can also travel if necessary.



Lately, I have started to take an interest in 944S, S2, and turbos, but I think it's only because my 968 dream has gone unfulfilled for so long..

Hmmm... Back when I was (unsuccessfully) trying to sell mine about two years ago, there were something like 36 968s for sale at autotrader.com at the same time, making selling for anything resembling a reasonable price a near-hopeless proposition. But now, there are only 15 total, 10 of which are Cabs, and only two Coupes that seem to fit your criteria. Seems that people are holding on to their 968s these days. Have you looked on .net? They have a pretty active classified section. Best of luck with the continued search!

Yes, we have an ongoing dialog! There are a couple of Cabs I know of that "are available" but no Coupes.

lol - hardly - i figure there are no coupes for sale for pretty much the same reason you don't see yugos for sale. people figure they can't dump them, so they might as well either hang onto it and turn it into a planter box, or just scrap it.

Price range: very good question.



I hope to find something around or under 11,000$ initially and am assuming that I will be putting in money over the next few years. I know the consensus seems to be that it takes roughly 20K$ to get a 968 really up to snuff and I should therefore have more cash to spend right away - but so far my "let's buy Robb a Porsche" donation drive has yielded only dirty looks. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" />



I am looking for not only a car but also a hobby, and lucky for me and a car in need of some cosmetic/light mechanical work is definitely in the cards given my price range.

Tell you what. You buy mine and maybe I'll buy Rich's... Both are nice cars. I looked at his when I bought mine. I just couldn't justify the extra money considering the condition of the car I have.



If I could get an Amazon Green M030 car, I'd be ecstatic, but I could do Polar Silver.



Oh and I am in Jersey again, so about 3-4 hours away from you depending upon where you are in the DC area.

Why don't you have a dirty looks fundraiser? $100 bucks a ticket and target females and housewives. After all if you give a look there should be sort of charge for it. You could have the contest looking for the best looks. Don't you just hate these looks? It is better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

as for the search, cars seem to come up in spurts



i think what is going on right now is that some people have unrealistic expectations of pricing, and are holding onto cars expecting them to appreciate or somehow increase in value. this is likely due in part to a couple of recent sales of auction house specialty cars, which sold for abnormally high prices. the thought is that this would somehow translate to price increases on the normal cars. unfortunately this is not going to start a trend, or at least not a long term one.



also, summer is typically not a time that people like to sell their toys. they tend to use them in the summer and fall, and then sell them in the winter and early spring. you will generally find daily drivers and beaters in the summer, and the nicer cars in the winter.



the bad news is that now that VW has taken over operation, parts availability is getting harder, and many more parts are being cancelled due to them not wanting to support older cars. this is intended to drive new sales. unfortunately they have not managed to realize the collector and enthusiast needs. the good news from this though is that as a result, more cars will come up for sale soon, and at lower prices, as people find they need to dump them.

I just searched on www.searchtempest.com which pulls results from all of craigslist...three coupes for sale across the whole country. About 10 cabs.



Prices have definitely increased since late 2010 when I bought mine. Wait it out and you'll find a nice example at a price you can work with...
