My alarm is possessed!!
#1

..........My alarm is possessed!!

I am having an issue with my alarm going off intermittintly without reason! No noise, trucks, harley's etc.

I found a replacement alarm module and at first i did some tests during the day and it seemed OK. That night i left it on and no issues. Last night while i was in a dead sleep it went off for no reason at 12 midnight. Thats two different modules . I kept it on all day at work todayand all was fine again.

Has anyone that has had this issue or is very knowledgeable in this area. I really need it as i park the car outside overnight and i really don't want to bypass it and install an aftermarket one if i don't have to.

Thanks..............G <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

very likely a pin switch is knackered - check the ones at the doors, hood, trunk (or hatch) and definitely the one in the glove box

It acts fine 99% of the time.

Is it pretty obvious what they look like when i pull the door panel?

How do they work?

Is it just a grounding swith? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

What condition is your battery in? Sometimes the drop in voltage makes your alarm do funny things.

Mine went off in the middle of the night a few times for no reason. Discovered that the glove box latch was a bit loose. Tighened it up from the inside and repositioned it so it properly actuated the glove box light mechanism and my problem was solved.

Can anybody tell me where the switch for the hatch is located?

My alarm went off for no reason twice on Friday night.
I suspect it is the switch on the hatch, because it happened a couple times in Hershey after I had opened and closed the hatch, and because I had just played golf on Friday and used the hatch for my clubs.
I don't use the hatch very often, so there seems to be a correlation.

I did some searching and found the trick for locking the doors without arming the alarm, so at least I have a method for locking the car until I get this sorted out.

Thanks,
Jamie

Thanks Flash. Right on!

It appears that the wire connected to the driver's side hatch lifter has pulled out of the connector and is dangling free.

If I touch the wire to a metal part in the vicinity, close the hatch, and lock the door, the alarm LED on the door lock post stays dark and does not flash like it should when the alarm is set. Same thing happens if I leave the passenger door open and lock the door on the driver's side.

So it makes sense that this wire grounds through the hatch lifter when the hatch is open, and the circuit opens when the hatch is closed.
I'm guessing that the wire was intermittently grounding out and setting off the alarm (thinking the hatch was opened).

For now, the wire is dangling in the air away from any metal parts, and things seem good (no alarm triggerings).

I'll re-attach a connector for a real fix when I have 2 spare minutes.

Thanks again for the info.
I don't know what I'd do without this forum.

I had a similar issue with my alarm. It went off during the night for no apparent reason...

Using the Bosch hammer it was narrowed down to a rear hatch alarm problem.

I have stopped the alarm going off, but I haven't got round to working out which fix, fixed it.

1. I disconnected the alarm cable from the rear hatch strut.
2. On RHD cars, like mine, the alarm system is located in the passenger side footwell under a plywood footrest. The plywood was resting on a whole bunch of alarm cables going to the alarm unit. I moved the cables, so the footrest missed them.

Since then no problems.

Cheers

Oily

I also have the problem my alarm going off all the time.
Going to inspect those pin switches soon.

In the meantime I would like to know how I can lock the doors without arming the alarm.
I don't like cutting off the battery every single time I need to lock the car ...

Thank you!

What I found after searching for a few minutes was that you can open the passenger side door, lock the car with the switch on the center console, and close the passenger side door.

I tried it, and it appears to work as advertised.

Good luck,
Jamie
