Wasn't even planning on selling it. I didn't advertise it. With that said, I drove her for the last time today. Her new owner picked her up at the airport and is on his way back to Charlotte. This 968 was the best Porsche I have ever owned. It was in pristine concours condition. I'll never find one like that again. We are moving up to Wisconsin outside of Minneapolis from Georgia. My wife wasn't going to park outside in -30F weather. Hence the car is now gone. A couple of pictures of my girls saying goodbye to their "Fifi" and a picture of the new owner "Michael V." with an obvious smile on his face as he turns on to I-85 north at Virginia Avenue (ATL airport). Hopefully he will join the forums shortly.

What is it with the rash of selling lately? I had mine sold a couple weeks ago but the guy backed out. I took it to the local car show yesterday just to advertise it. Well, after a bunch of people looked at it and asked questions, one man and I talked for about 10-15 minutes. He said that if he had the room in his garage (newer Z06 and new GTI), he would buy it in a second.

Well... about an hour after the show, he calls me and tells me not to sell it and he will be down later in the day. He did come and check it out with this wife, they drove it and then drove it home. I am kind of stunned that the whole thing went so fast. I really didn't even get a chance to drive it one last time.

Oh well, I'll get another one in a year or so. In the meantime, I'll hang out here and watch the supercharger thread [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img]

Seems to be a new 968 buzz going on. There selling faster and faster. Even on ebay they're no longer going with out a winner.

Unless finances dictate otherwise, I'm keeping mine.

I'd love to have kept it, but it wasn't in the cards. The real estate market in Atlanta absolutely stinks. My house which I bought for 250000 in early '05 couldn't sell at 170,000 now. Hence we are going to rent it out at a loss and rent something up north. A slush fund to carry the loss is a good thing.

I absolutely hate commuting to work and all the stress involved, so that is not an option. I don't think that we could find a place to rent up there with a three car garage, and parking outside just isn't going to fly in -30F and snow.

The money I received for the car is what I bought it for in March. That is a testament of how special this car is in light of this market. When I am out from my Georgia anchor, and buy a home with a 3 bay garage or shop in MSP. She'll be mine again if ever she comes for sale.

i feel the pain - we bought our house 3 years ago for a bit over a million - then it soared up to about $1.3 million - we then did about a $100k remodel, the first in what we thought would be at least 2 of those, figuring we were in good shape - then values plummeted to under $800k - they are finally getting back up to where we were when we started, including the remodel cost, but only because of what we spent on remodeling, which puts us at the top of the market - houses that didn't do the remodel thing are still down about $400k

it will still be a while before we get back up to where things were at their peak, so in the meantime it's all about being very careful

we're lucky - we don't have to sell or move - i know way too many people that have lost their houses in this nightmare - my parents (retired) are losing their minds - they haven't lost their house or the ranch or anything, but they planned their retirement based on history - 50 years in the making, and then all of a sudden they wake up and everything they know is wrong

i've recently seen a LOT of cars go up on the chopping block in an attempt to streamline expenses - we have even thought about doing similar things with things we just don't use (like the M3) - while we don't truly "need" to sell it, we could certainly live more comfortably with it gone - like i said, we are lucky - for way too many others though it has become a necessary move just to survive - i've been there - it's no fun

scary times for sure

the way to look at it though, is that it is just a "thing" - "things" can be replaced - usually you get better "things" later on

The market will rebound in time. Always does. For those in a position to stick it out things will balance out. If however you have to sell, as so many in this economy are forced to do. It seems a loss is unavoidable. If you can rent and get good renters then things will probably work out better for you financially.

Our local newspaper had an article this morning discussing projections suggesting that real estate prices in the NYC area - including the suburban NJ county in which we live - could fall another 30%. If that happens...well, I can't even imagine or contemplate the effects.

When I got my first Porsche about 5 1/2 years ago, I told my wife that if we truly couldn't afford it or if the car was taking away money that should be used for savings, college, etc. that I would sell it. I had the Boxster S for about 3 1/2 years but I always wanted a 968. So, having a very cool wife, she didn't hassle me about it. I can't believe it's been about a year and a half ago that I have had this car. Unfortunately, as of late, it's been getting tougher. We're very fortunate in that we have a great house (same story as Flash, with almost the same numbers) and I have a great job but the bonuses aren't there... It's most important for us that the wife is able to stay at home and raise our 5 1/2 year old daughter and we just need to lower the monthly nut a little bit and lower the bar.

soooo... it really bums me out but it was time to sell it. I have met some really great people on here and of course Flash's knowledge and generosity are beyond amazing. I spoke with Scott (the new owner) today and asked him if he felt guilty and wanted to give me the car back. He laughed and promptly said "No way!" I know he will take very good care of it (he has a newer Z06 and has never washed it because it never sees anything but sunshine) so he is as crazy as I am about cars. I will definitely get another one some day. Now that I know a ton about these cars, I have an idea of what I want for the next one. I'll still be lurking and hopefully in the next year I can pull the trigger again. The new owner told me after he bought it that I will regret selling it and I already know he's right. Unfortunately, I know deep down that it's the right thing to do for now. I turned him onto this forum so I'm sure he'll pop his head up here sooner or later.

Thanks for letting me vent. Now... about that supercharger!

one of the things that i don't think many are considering when selling their car is that they may have purchased them on financing, and will not be able to do that when they go to get a new one - the cars are now all too old for finance companies - 15 years is the longest i've heard of anyone handling, and that is a stretch for most companies - that means that the next car will have to be bought with cash

I hear ya. The monthly nut. I feel like I must be that nut for living in Central Jersey.

My wife stays home with my two girls and a third one on the way. Bless her heart! It means no second income, but money can't buy what she does for our children. Everyone has to do what they feel is best.

Best of luck with the future for you and your family. I hope you will be behind the wheel again as things improve out there.

I sold by 928 about a year ago when the economy looked like it was going to go down forever. I really miss the car and wish I didn't sell it. I don't have to move and have the 3 cars garage and therefore the 968 isn't going anywhere, knock wood. Best of luck to all the friends who needed to sell.
