Morning smoke
#1

I just had the head rebuilt and I have started to notice about a quart of oil being burned every 1-2 weeks. I checked the mirror this morning to watch a big blue cloud as I rolled off this morning. The could was not present when I started, but as I pulled out. As I increased the RPM, the cloud got bigger, then subsided with time.

Assuming the valve job was correct as well as the valve seal installation, what other ways can oil get into the combustion? Anyway through the intake manifold? I did notice black goo deposited at the intake manifold/head interface when I tore the head off.

That was my first thought. No smell of gas. I will try and retorque the head to make sure the head gasket is sealing. That and valve guide seals are the two obvious.

Does it pump out blue smoke on the over-run? Run it at a few thousand revs and then back off quickly, if it pumps out smoke then chances are it's valves, if not your looking at the rings. It's a long shot but it may also be a blocked oil breather.

Good luck with it.
