Does anyone have any recommendations for a steering wheel that will allow a bit more leg room? My son wants to buy a new wheel as his 6' 6" body has trouble with proper pedal positioning; his knees are always sideways trying to get around the stock steering wheel.
He was looking at a Momo 350mm wheel with a flat bottom. Frankly I think a flat bottom might drive me nuts as I let the wheel run through my hands a lot while centering after a tight corner.

If I recall the CS wheel is a 300mm wheel which is smaller then the airbag wheel. If you want to keep an airbag in front of your soon you will need to look at the 996 wheel conversion.

If you decide to give up the airbag, get an extended hub and a dished steering wheel. That will bring the wheel closer to the driver allowing you to be comfortable with the seat farther back. I have this setup and I like the ergonomics of it a lot.

What brand, model and diameter is the dished wheel you are recommending? have a Momo Competition wheel installed and while a great wheel it`s reduced diameter 350mm combined with my height 6`2' results in a reduction in the line of sight to the top of the speedo.
Do you have this problem with the dished wheel?
Any other suggestions on how I can counter this problem? The seat is already on its lowest setting and I would like to retain this wheel.

I have a 350 mm OMP with 67 mm dish. The hub is 80 mm. I have Sparco seats and the drivers side is bolted to the floor. I used to have a Recaro slide but I needed the 20 mm down in order to 1) sit better and 2) clear the view to the ! on the dash. I'm 184 cm btw and I don't like to sit like a crab.

I definitly don't want a 300mm wheel as I would feel like I was driving a go-cart. The stock wheel with the airbag is 380mm OD so 350, which seems to be the most plentiful size, might be optimal. I worry also about the guages being obscured by a smaller wheel but my "crap sitting" 198 cm son say "we don't need no stinkin guages".
Any opinions on the wheels with the flat bottom?

i dont recall what the exact size of the CS wheel is (for some reason i remember 320MM, but may be wrong), but i have no problems seeing the gauges with mine.

In the Frank Pieper Porsche 968 Companion the CS wheel is called up as 360mm dia. I have also seen the diameter quoted at 365mm.
Either way this difference over the 350mm MOMO wheels would explain the improved line of sight.

I am 196cm and not as thin as I once was and fit quite comfortably in my 968. Maybe this advice will help your son find a more comfortable position.

What I do is to take the seat up as high as it can go and then slide it back into a position that is good for my legs (This is not even all the way back). Once I have the correct location I drop the rear of the seat onto the floor and then lower the front to the desired position. Now I usually move the seat slightly forward. My legs easily clears the wheel.

The only car I've driven with a flat bottom steering wheel was a Ferrari, one day, and I didn't notice any issues with it. I was pretty enamored with the experience overall and the sounds kept me fairly occupied all day, so I doubt I would have noticed. I did think about it when first getting used to the controls, but soon forgot about it.

JohannVB - Problem with my son is he is all leg so the seat is all the way back before he even starts to adjust anything - he's all crab legs at that point! I'm 193 cm and I find it perfect for me. Looks like a 350 whell is the way to go but I need to find a 968 with one installed to try. I doubt the seating position in a 993 would be the same as I would have better luck finding a modded one of those.

Hmmm...long legs ina Porsche is a problem. The 911's seat does not go as far back as a 968 and the wheel is slightly higher, so yes, using a 993 or any 911 for comparison is of no use.
