More Curves than "Tail Of The Dragon"
#1

Recently had the opportunity to drive the greatest sports car road I have found in the USA. Highway 191 from Alpine, Arizona South to the Marenci Mine in the southern part of the state. Beautiful mountain scenery, lots of elevation changes and more curves than "Tail of the Dragon" has (318 curves in 11 miles)near the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Highway 191 has over 500 curves with much more elevation changes and lasts a lot longer (over two hours in my 944/V8 and my friend's Boxster). Make a special trip sometime - you will be glad you did! What an interesting coincidence. Flew from East coast to West today and pretty sure I saw that mine. The pilot said something about turbulance 100 miles East of Tucson. I was on the North side of the plane with perfectly clear skies so I took a look around since he interrupted me from the bliss of the laptop work on the plane routine. I saw a big grey splotch down there and thought - must be a copper mine or something. Looks like a dead ringer for what shows on Google maps. Anyway, that looks like a really nice drive. I bit out of the way but I am collecting a list of drives that I want to do. Something like the Porsche bucket list. I want to have more fun with the car than just driving it around town and occasionally to work. I'll add this to the list.

I'll bet this one is less crowded than the dragon as well.

Thanks Bob!

Last weeekend I drove the notorious "snake road" along the east side of the Hudson River (Near West Point) great drive if you dont get stuck behind someone, plenty of curves and steep cliffs. A number of car commercials were filmed on this road over the years and it is one of my favorite drives. Kind of feels like "King Of The Mountain" if you know what I Mean. Bob, I did the 191 ride several times on a motorcycle and had an absolute blast. FYI the Hannigan Meadow Lodge is a lovely stay.
