I recently bought a brand new old stock ZF power steering rack and thought I would measure it and my old track rods to compare to the 944 manual rack set-up which I have lying about in my workshop. First size in any pairing is the 968, sizes in metric ( divide by 25.4 to get inches).
Body length 442mm/398mm
Rack length 534mm/472mm
Track rods from rack end to approx. centre of pivot at steering knuckle 430mm/425 to 435mm
Pivot to Pivot 1394mm/1332mm
These sizes were just taken with a tape measure to get a feel for the difference. It can be deduced there is about 31mm/side difference give or take. That might help anyone if they decide to swap over to manual steering. The mounting centres are compatible because the manual rack nearside clamp can be positioned to suit. Cheers.
