Memorial Day 2016
#1

Just finished watching the National Memorial Day Concert on PBS. There was one segment honoring the veterans from the Viet Nam War. The camera panned  across a group of Viet Nam vets and I was struck by how old they looked. Then I recalled, that it has been more than 45 years since I entered military service and that I am one of those old guys at 68 years of age. The WWII generation will not be with us much longer. The last members of that generation, in my family, are both in their 90s.

Tomorrow, I will raise a glass to absent comrades. The will remain forever young in my memory.

Thanks to all Vets whose service and sacrifice allow us to live the lives we do today here in the USA.

On the topic of Memorial Day, I watched the opening ceremony of the Indy 500 yesterday. The tributes were well done and the program was well organized.

I thought the national anthem could have been done better... but I guess you have to allow for "artistic interpretation" (although I personally do not care for that when national anthems are sung).

Why we, as a society are screwed up :

There are three days in a year when we recognize and honor the military .

Here is a list of the awards /  number of days when actors are being recognized

Oscars

Golden Globes

Emmys

Tonys

People’s Choice Awards

Screen Actors Guild Awards

Critics Choice Awards

Directors Guild Awards

Teen Choice Awards

..and I’m sure I missed another one or two ..
