Big race in New Jersey at NJMP
#1

There will be a huge race at New Jersey Motorsports Park this coming weekend on the Thunderbolt track. Sunday at 11:00 the Pro IT qualifying happens, then at 1:00 the 45 minute Pro IT race kicks off.

Come and check it out!!!

I have a new HD camera and will hopefully have better quality video and enough space/battery to tape the whole show in-car.

It's my anniversary and I'm not sure that my wife is as understanding as Flash's...probably need to bow out and do some gardening or other "relationship building" activities...(btw, how come ging to the race track isn't "relationship building"???)

Happy Anniversary Jay !! I thought she married you for the car ? I would consider it relationship building if you took her to the track in it............LOL

"btw, how come ging to the race track isn't "relationship building"???)"

Because it was your suggestion and not hers. Besides it is noisy, hot, dusty, sweaty, and you'll be spending the entire time telling her just how much you love this Porsche or that Ferrari.

I long ago gave up trying to get my wife to go to track events.

A great day for Porsche in NJ this weekend! And as a super cool bonus I got to meet Pablo Crespo - a way cool dude who came to the track and helped support the BigSpeed racing effort.

Pablo got to check out some full contact SCCA racing - more on that...

I was on the outside pole and first in class with a 1.34.3 and was feeling really good - car was in top shape. Took the lead by T1 and led every lap......almost. With 2 laps to go a backmarker held me up going onto the front straight and killed my run - I had to nail the brakes at the most important corner on the track to avoid the guy and that gave a 328IS a huge run on me. I had a big lead the whole race and hadn't seen this guy creeping up on me. He got by and I followed him for a lap and got a big run on him going onto the front strait with the white flag-1 lap to go waiving. I went to pass into T1 and he basically ran me down to the grass on the inside and I had to back off. Got another big run on the BMW going onto the back straight and did not lift going into the high speed kink around 115 mph. Hit the curb on the right and saw the BMW trying to pinch me down again and I said "no fing way" and held my line. He hit me and I drove over the hood of his car and never lifted. He was sideways for a good 50 yards and I ended up straightening him out pushing him in the right front fender and passed to retake P1. Then going into the Devil courosel I went too hot worried the BMW was looking for a bump and run and ran wide allowing the BMW to retake the lead - MAN WAS I PISSED at myself - this was one of those mental errors you never want to make - gave away the race with about 3-4 turns to go and finished 2nd in class and third overall with fastest time of day.

I will try to post some video of the beating and banging. My car needs a door and a turn signal - BMW - a little worse off -but not too hurt - he needs a fender and maybe a hood - we both gave each other a good bear hug afterwards with no hard feelings.

The Porsche 968 is a tremendous car - really feel like I picked the best platform. Now to race Pablo :-)
Pete - I might need to order up some stuff....

Video of the last two laps - leading video is boring as there are no cars to watch. Next time I'm going to reposition the camera for a better angle on the track.

I look at this and want to kick my own ass for messing up the win

It was a great race day at Thunderbolt indeed! It was a true pleasure to finally get to meet Ben and his awesome group at the track.

Exciting race with Ben taking the lead by T1 and not putting a wheel wrong throughout the 40 or so minutes. A little block here and a squeeze there by the bimmer obviously made the last few laps all that much more exciting. I do have to say that in NASA, the squeeze and contact at the kink may have been deemed avoidable contact and resulted in the BMW being DQ'd... but maybe not... and that is racing... All in all, it was awesome to watch the race from the tower even though we needed a set of radios! Believe me, by the end of the race everyone at the tower knew who's corner I was cheering... great stuff, great times.

I have tons of pics but my favorite is Ben trying to undo the trophy girl's bikini top while at the podium ceremony.....!
