I spent yesterday cleaning up my "93 968 Tip for another season of SCCA racing . I will be on the road again helping as team engineer on my nephew's FC Van Dieman for the next 8 months. Last year we were at the track for 14 races in the Midwest. My 968 now has 51,000 miles on it, and needs to have some issues looked at by a KNOWLEDGEABLE tech. I know I've procrastinated since last Oct, but now I find that I've got two weeks before the Memphis National ( If we get the car back together next weekend !!). I need a mechcanic that knows 968s. The mechanic I've used in the past was Porsche trained, but for the last ten+ years was been at independent shops. (The local Porsche dealer left in the early "80s.) He was very good, but now he is with a Mitsu dealership and has probably lost much contact with P-cars. I don't want to take my car to just any high line mechanic with a set of Snap-On tools and access to ALDATA. With so few 968s around and now being 12-15 years old, it is hard to find someone with a true interest in these cars. I did most of my own work on my 356,911, S2, but age, time, complexity, and knowledge have cut my own maintenance work to cleaning and polishing.
I'm looking for someone who knows these cars. I will be all around the midwest this season and was wondering if there is any shop that someone can recommend for my to drop my car off work. I usually leave Thur night for the races and get back late Sun. I've had my old 911 set up by Bob Farmer ( great shop ) in Indy, but I'm not sure about the 968. The belts were checked at about 38,000, and I don't know about Tip fluid. The car runs great with no problems (except slight tick in real in N !!! ), but I need the belts, hoses, ect all changed. I don't want to have a problem on the road 300 miles from home while trying to get home for my day job. Sorry for taking up so much space, but I need some input to keep my 968 trouble free.. Any info appreciated Thanks!!!
