I live in Westport, CT, and am a long time Porsche enthusiast (I did own a 944S2 some years ago). I do not currently own a 968, but I'm currently searching for one. I plan to use 968Forums during both the search process and, hopefully, ownership.

Welcome aboard, I hope your search is successful. They are out there, you just have to be patient. I was looking for a 951 when I found my 968. I changed my search overnight - glad I did.

Are you looking nationwide or just local?

Hello Mags1966,

Lots of info and experience here.

Are you planning on regular or daily driving, or more of a weekend driver?

Best wishes for finding an excellent 968.

Welcome!

I looked at a nice original 968 over the weekend. It needs a few things attended to, and a PPI, if we get that far, may turn up more. We'll see where it goes from here.

I test drove a nice coupe a few days ago -- seems to be solid but needs a bit of catch-up on the maintenance front. Next step will be a PPI. Does this site contain any information on asking vs selling prices? As a newbie, I don't yet have access to everything.

you made it to rookie now, so you have access to pretty much everything.

pricing is all over the map. there is no hard fast rule as to pricing a 968. there is a fairly consistent number as to what it will cost to get one and get it road worthy.

Thanks for the responses to my earlier posts. My first attempt at a purchase did not make it as another suitor apparently offered more than my budget would allow. Therefore, I'm still looking in the Northeast for a good car (coupe or cab). Flash, can you point me to the information you referred to on 'what it will cost to get one and get it road worthy.'

Don't worry about other suitors "stepping up". If you have a budget and a particular car is worth "X" but a suitor steps up and overpays at "Y", you'll very likely see that car again in a few weeks or months as it's on the block again. I drove all over the NorthEast looking at cars, for a good long time, before I finally found a great example. Most of the eBay and CraigsList cars were absolute rats that the sellers insisted over the phone were in perfect condition, only to find rattle-can resprays and busted bumpers and grilles, and lots of missing parts.

yup - i found the same thing. it took me months to find the car. in the end, i did find it on ebay, but there were a lot of pictures i made him take before i bought it. i didn't go out and check the car out either, not did i do a PPI. i was lucky enough to have the records, it was a very low mileage car, and i had more than a dozen phone calls with the seller.

always best to buy a car from here, or some other similar place, where the members generally know the owner and/or the car. that takes away a lot of the nonsense.

as for the "list" it varies from car to car, but do some reading here and you'll find the laundry list of things that typically need attention.
