Magnesium Lugs?

Just switched out my 16" OEM, with 17" OEM Twists....when the shop was pulling off the lug nuts I noticed they were incredibly light. The tech told me they were Magnesium. I don't believe my last 968 had the very light lugs, or maybe I just never noticed.



Question:

- Were the magnesium lugs standard on the 968? or did the <acronym title='previous owner'>PO</acronym> possibly purchase these as after-market?

- Also, On each of the rims, one of the magnesium lugs was longer that the other 4. It gave the impression that is was a wheel lock, but the wrench fit it without problem. Anyone have insight as to why one of the magnesium lugs is longer that the others?

OEM is aluminum...Longer stud fits a keyed lock cap.

Yea, they are a composite I think, straight Al would not stand the on off too much. You have to replace these lugs after 15-20 uses I believe due to the wear factor of the torquing.

lol - my wheels have been off at least twice that many times in the last 8 years.



and yes, they are good only for about 25 torques, plus or minus, depending on other conditions (thread condition of the studs, temperature extremes, severe side loading, moisture, etc). after that they start losing the ability to retain torque

First track mod = steel lugs
