M030 package
#1

What exactly are included in the M030 package (or whatever they called) on the 968? Usually how much more does it cost and does it really worthwhile to seek one out. And how much would it be to retrofit one with used M030 parts?

TIA,

Pete

Pete, there is a complete list somewhere on either this site or www.968.net. I think it is a very worthwhile option to have on the 968 since I use my car on the track as well as a daily driver. Still, I have been able to add stiffer springs and torsion bars along with the M030 sway bars and Koni gas adjustable struts and shocks for a reasonable price from places such as Paragon Products. I do not have the larger M030 brakes and lower mounted spindles for the front suspension but have not found them to be necessary for my use. It is quite expensive to retrofit the complete M030 package with new, original Porsche parts. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

How's the brake on the non-M030 car handles in track condition? Would it get overheated easily? I guess its a big $$$ project to put in a big brake kit for the car <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/huh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Btw, is LSD a separate option from the M030 package?

The stock brakes with Metalmaster pads are terrific on the track events I participate in. (1.7 miles, 14 corners, usually only run one lap at a time) In longer events where the brakes are used more and for longer periods, they would probably heat up. You can go to 928S4 front brake calipers and rotors with Pagid or other racing pads for a reasonable price if you use used parts. The rears don't need to be changed, just use better pads.

Yes the LSD is a separate option (either 220 or 221 depending on the year of manufacture of the car). Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Not if you've a dedicated brake duct set up for the car, I would think.

Maybe so, but the 968 has very good brake air scoops built in which direct air right to the rotors so I don't think ducts will make much difference. The main thing is how much and how hard you use the brakes. I only brake hard for the two hairpin turns on our track and just modulate the throttle and downshift on the other 12 corners. Good luck, it is lots of fun! Bob Blackwell.
