I have a M030 coupe but cannot determine if the diff is a limited slip. I've been told that with the rear end jacked, turning one rear wheel should cause the opposite side to turn in the same direction. It does not, but goes opposite as in any non limited slip car. My car is a 93 w/ @ 85000 mi. Can anyone tell me how to verify that this car still has the LSD? Thanks, Allan

The M030 option included a Torsen diff (and possibly others). The Torsen diff goes 'open' when one wheel leaves the ground, so the "jack it up and spin one wheel" test doesnt work.



Best way to test is do a standing start in the wet (or dry) and see if both rear wheels break traction. If they do, it is a Torsen diff.

MO30 could be had without LSD.

As Stephen said check for option code 220.



There is a sticker near your spare tire that has option codes.

Ya, I have the 220 code but previous owner told me something vague about the tran having some work done or possibly replaced. Not really into beating the piss out of it to burn rubber...

well, unless he removed it (hard to believe anybody would do that) or swapped out for a non-lsd unit, then you have torsen lsd



no way to check it other than driving and seeing what tire does what



the "up in the air / wheel rotation" thing is for clutch types or lock-ups, not for torque biased diffs

Sorry to jump in... So, If I nail the car away from a standing start without a LSD do I take it the likelihood is just one wheel will grab?



I also have the MO30 package on a '92 model and not sure of the diff. (neither MO30 or 220/221 are listed in my book, but the car is 'as from factory' according to the previous owner)

I've owned three 030 optioned Coupes. Two had LSD, one did not.

So could you have a car with 220 but not M030? The reason I ask is I think I saw one, I couldn't find option code M030 but it did have 220. Anybody ever seen that? The car has the 17in wheel code as well.

not hard at all, if you have m030 hubs they bolt straight on, or purchsase some adapters to convert from trailing to radial mounting. and use the 993rs discs, if you want to use the 2 piece discs you will have to get some ally bells made up to suit as the original 2 piece discs are about 5mm out.

I just checked my options as well. I do have option 220. What is the difference between option 220 and 221? The decoder only lists them as locking differential and porsche-locking differential respectively.
