I think I have the dreaded "whine"
#1

I think I have the famous pinion bearing whine. It goes up with acceleration and doen with deceleration. My clutch is getting to the point it needs replacing, but this seems new, and it's pretty loud. Do I need to stop driving immediately (It seems to drive just fine), or should I drive it striaght to my mechanic? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

does it make the same noise regardless of which gear you are in?

does it make the same noise if you step on the clutch?

does it change at all in a corner?

does it sound like a jet airplane in the back of your car?

After talking with Bob, and doing some testing, I'm backing off from my orignial claim, for now. Could be several things, and my gut is telling me this is not it. Not saying it won't happen, but I think there are some other factors at play. I will update soon.
