it's not often you get to see an M030 car - it's even less often you see a slate grey metallic car - but both in one???

baur stopped by this weekend so i could give the car a looking over - the car is bone stock everywhere, but he has plans for it

i expected to see the car pretty beaten up, given that it was an M030 car, but i was pleasantly surprised - of course, with the classic grey (or classic purple as he calls it) there is the expected discoloration, but that pretty easy to deal with - other than that, there is not a lot needed - some TLC and a refresh of the M030 shocks and struts, which is all totally expected, and she's good to go - this is going to be a really nice car - he did really well on this, and i look forward to seeing it at a lot of events

here are a couple of quick shots:

Yeah Adam's car is pretty cool - love the color, and the big brakes of course. Bonus points for not leaking all over your driveway like my car did!

(Leak update - installing new ps pressure hose this weekend and that should do it for the red drips. Still need to track down source of engine oil leak tho)

I'm not saying that I don't like this car, because I do. But... can someone enlighten me on what makes this car _visually_ so appealing? Apart from the color I mean... Just genuine interest and nothing else

i think it's just the color - it's one of those colors that just sneaks up on you - it's stately and subtle, showing off the curves and lines, and not garish or brash like some of the other rarer colors

Yes, slate gray is defintely "da bomb". Flash is right - it kind of sneaks up on you. It wasn't a color I was considering when I was looking for mine, but when I saw it, I liked it immediately, and it has only grown on me in the seven years I've owned the car.

I think I've never seen this color live, so I will have to wait and see if I get lucky I have seen some other cars in -what appears to be- a similar shade of grey metallic that I liked a lot. Now if only it were a ROW version without the bumper pads...

Sorry to go slightly OT, but, is it hard/possible to retrofit the 3rd braking light? I do like that one from a safety point of view... Sometimes I have to brake hard and I like the idea of people behind me actually seeing that I do so.

Bob, The garage looks great. I think you need a 968 coupe to keep the cab company.

BTW, there were only 54 968 coupes produced in Q9 Slate gray but that is the ONLY M030 produced in slate gray. Consider yourself honored!!

Personal observation about the slate gray color in a 968 (at least, when viewed in person ): of all the colors I have seen, I thought this particular one gives the car a more " beefier , bigger, wider, brawnier , intimidating / menacing , 8 cylinder-ish " look to it, compared to pretty much anything else, including black which most would say generally lends itself to that kind of appearance. Before I bought mine I looked at a slate gray for sale but it was not in great shape either outside or inside, and the interior was cashmere, which I did not think complimented the color scheme all that well..

nice car, great color. Bone stock huh. I could never go that long bone stock. Not even a airbox mod & chip? He's really missing out.

I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!

I won't be missing out for much longer. Hopefully just until Saturday. At least it's got a K&N filter in it already!

Bone stock on this car includes the M030 package and LSD, so I'm not that deprived...

I have had a couple of cars with a slate gray color and always thought they had a understated elegance about them. Not quite sure if elegance is right word to associate with a 968 but this cars looks sharp.

I hope all the gushing compliments about slate gray don't cause the value of cars blessed with this color to skyrocket, just when I've decided to keep mine and turn it into more of a track-worthy weekend toy...

I do like the slate grey but I think it looks better in the garage picture vs the sun picture. I've always thought it looked better in dark pictures vs light pictures. Maybe it's just me.

It sure looks a lot better in person than it does in pictures too! Definitely has a more "agressive" look to it than a lot of the other colors. It really accentuates the lines of the car, especially the rear flares.

I always wanted a white one, but the Slate Grey became my favorite when I saw it in person...
