Long wire over/in engine
#1

Maybe someone knows about this:
I've looked at 968 coupes and 968 cabrio pictures of engines (Ebay, photos, books, etc.)

There is a long black wire that runs horizontally across engine (facing engine, standing in front of car).

I noticed that it's placement is different on 968s. I can't tell if the difference is random, or the same on all coupes, all cabriolets or by year of car.

Some have the long thick wire resting OVER the engine while some cars have it running THRU the engine, all the time still running horizontally.

What wire is this and what's the difference between running it over the top of the engine v. running it right below the top cover of the engine?

i think you are talking about the cruise control cable (not really a wire) - if so, it is supposed to run underneath the fuel rail cover - there is a notch for it in the cover

Thx.
Any harm if a friend's car has it over the engine running across?
I don't know where the fuel rail cover is.

I do know know that the wire or cable as you mention runs right across the top of engine BETWEEN 2 of the 4 spark plugs.
Thx.

If it runs on the top of the piece of metal that has PORSCHE molded into it (the fuel rail cover), it will rub a notch in it. All you have to do is remove the two bolts on each side of the cover and the cable will lay where it is intended (under the small notch that is made for it). Then just put the cover back on.
