Can anyone give a description of the easiest way to remove the cigarette lighter socket for replacement ? Can it be reached through the glove box ? Do I need to disassemble the whole dash ? I have a direct short to the clock and lighter. not sure if that is the culprit.

Rico,

To remove/replace the cig lighter, you have to remove the dash trim piece that runs across the top of the glove box. It isn't difficult, but there are a few tricky screws. Also, the wires for both the temp display and the cig lighter are usually pretty tight. I was there when Flash was checking that with you...you should double check to find out what other items are on fuse 11 (look inside the lid) as maybe something else is the problem since that fuse blows immediately upon re-insertion. Maybe whatever blew the fuse originally is melted together or something causing the short. Once you find the problem, everything else should be OK.

Hi Darryl,
That trim piece has a removable rectangular cover plate on the right with a screw. That pops out. On the left there is a circular vent piece which looks like it has a screw behind it. Does that round piece pop out ? I should have taken a closer look at the trim pieces i saw at the swap meet. Trying not to break anything......

Vent piece "unscrews" but only by about 90 degrees. You'll alos have to pop off the HVAC cover as there are two screws on a tab on the left side as well. This is the tab that is always broken.

I have a #11 fuse issue, too. It blows when I plug in the tire inflator, but it's okay with the radar detector plugged in.

Now, three days later, the windshield wipers have begun acting up: in intermittent they sometimes go full time, won't change speed and won't turn off; then they go back to intermittent and can be turned off and the speed adjusted.

Anybody run across anything like these before?
