Left Headlight not turning on...
#1

Hi guys,

Here's a funny one. I recently realised that my left headlight wont light up. I was about to replace the bulb when I noticed that when I turn the brights on, the left headlight also turns on! If I leave the brights on for a few minutes (like ten minutes) and then turn them off, the left headlight may or may not remain switched on.

What I am certain about is that the left headlight will *always* turn on when I turn the brights on.

Any ideas?

cheers,

replace the bulb. Sometimes when the high beam turns on, the filament for the low beam will be warped a bit my the heat, and make contact temporarily, lighting up(same reason that sometimes a burnt out bulb can be "fixed" by hitting it

Still no go <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Replaced both bulbs with new ones, but I still can't get the left headlight to turn on unless I turn on the brights! Weird...

Any other ideas on what this could be?

Yes, take a close look at the prong the bulb plugs into. Mine was corroded pretty badly, and the plasticd around it was melted. Had to replace it, but I don't remember it being particularly expensive. Good luck.

Hi guys,

Nah, this turned out to be a simple case of replacing the bulb and letting the car sit for a few hours. When I turned the car on to go somewhere in the evening, all was ok. It's been working now without failure ever since my initial post!

Weird, but true...

cheers,

yep, weird. I doubt the up/down motor is directly related to the light circuit. No need for light not to come up if lamp is out....unless it is some kind of warning system that your bulb is out...but you would know that because it would be really dark on one side....hmmmmm , weird.
