Leather shifter options???
#1

I have two 968s for the registry that have options which sound similar but must be different. Any thoughts on what they are:

XX6 - leather shift lever knob - retail cost of $68 (I figured this was the little "coin" on the top of the shifter with the shift pattern on it but instead of plastic you got one covered in leather, I assume with the shift pattern on it).

Then I saw:

XK7 - Shift knob covered in leather - retail cost of $227. All 968s came with a shift lever covered in leather as standard equipment so what could this be? It is not leather to sample as that is option code XJ8.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Jeff

Per the attached

XK7 - Leather Shift Cover

XX6 - Leather Shift Pattern Insert.

Hope this helps,

Maybe XK7 is for the tip gear selector? IIRC, that is normally plastic or whatever, but no leather-covered....

XX6 is indeed the "leather shift pattern insert"

XK7 lists as "leather shift cover (manual transmission)" - perhaps it is part of the console that is covered?

Based on this web reference I would say that XK7 relates to the Shift Plate Cover.

Thanks Jay,

I found some more information. I was able to locate my Exclusive book and found XK7. Attached is a photo (opps, won't fit so here's a photo link). It looks like the difference is in the "formed leather", whatever that is???

i'm betting that it is the short leather boot that would accompany the rootwood shifter

But is specifically says in both sources that the knob is covered in leather as well: "Gear lever knob and boot formed in leather".

I have one more source to check. We'll see...

Bob,

Maybe that's it!!??? They say "form fitted", maybe they were refering to the shape of the knob??!!, and that it is more "form fitted" to your hand then the standard shifter knob???

I'm going to check with my German source and see what they say.

I have a MY 95 with the XC9 Dark Rootwood Gear Shift Knob option, but it does not have either the XK7 or XX6 options.

I too have the rootwood shift knob, with the leather shift pattern insert. I'll check my codes when I get in this evening. Id love to be able to replace the leather insert, as it is quite worn. I was able to stop any further deterioration by using clear nail polish, but if anyone has a source, I'm all ears.
