I've been living the So Cal life for two months now and I've yet to see any other 968's.

Anyone in the Santa Barbara region?

So far its just been Pana's, 991's and Cayenne's.....

I see one other red 968 around town now and then, but usually at the main Porsche shop down the street from work....that's about it though. A rare car gets more rare with time.

I've seen at least two parked on the street in Santa Barbara ( and neither one was our forum members -SB residents cars ..those are likely garaged :-) ) - one was a black coupe the other was a white cab.

I think it's amazing how rare 968 sightings are. I realize the cars are few in number, but it seems there are pretty few (at least here) that are true garage queens. Most are driven and enjoyed, which is how the car is intended to be used. I have friend with a Boxster S that only puts a thousand or so miles a year on it. I don't understand, in that I don't think that car will ever be as rare as the 968 or a multitude of other Porsches, so why not drive it and enjoy it?

a lot of these cars are falling into disrepair. a large number have just plain gone away in the last couple of years. i've seen more of them pop up in the wrecking yards in the last 2 years than in the 9 before that.

another thing to consider is that a lot of these are becoming track rats, so you won't see them unless you are at the track.

Less sightings also got some positives to it. Almost never seeing another one is one of the appealing aspects of owning a 968. At least for me.

I work with a guy who bought a 997 new and has only put just over 3k miles on it. He wears that like a badge of honor and looks forward to being able to sell it in another couple of years for the same amount he paid new. Ok, so let's say he does....what was the point? He purchased it, but he never really experienced it. Geez people are nuts.

It seems that a lost of Porsche owners are at one of those two polar points. Either they polish them and occasionally drive them, or they drive them and occasionally polish them. I am glad mine is a driver, it's too fun a car to keep in the garage as a showpiece.

After complete overhaul and new interior all I do now is rarely drive. May put her thru strip and repaint then sell her.

That's why I have two of them, LOL . One driven daily ( and rarely polished ) , the other driven occasionally and polished a bit more frequently though it does not require cleaning and waxing too often because it's a quasi-garage queen / weekend driver only, and thus does not easily get dirty or needs waxing more than twice or three times a year.

So with two, sightings in my proximate area are never lacking, lol...particularly with Trevor ( PorscheG96 ) living five minutes away, who has another couple of 968s . There is another 968 owned by my neighbor just four or five houses down the street from me, but it's a 100% garage queen! and it has not seen the light of day in at least seven years, so no sighting of that one LOL, and then yet another one which I occasionally see parked at a condominium complex on a side street no more than 1/4 of a mile from my house . So if you guys want to see 968 sightings, you need to move close to my house ..or Trevor's house .
