For $5k cash through a friend of a friend, there's now a 1993 black/black 968 6 speed coupe in my garage next to the riviera blue coupe. It's a rat cosmetically with damage from 2-3 different accidents and missing / broken accessories. Engine is leaking oil like a sieve and is making strange noises from the head, new clutch and recent pinion bearing fix [trans case looks great actually] but it runs and will be my daily driver + project car. I've already spent a half day fixing numerous little things and I plan to do the following fun projects over the next couple years:



1. Body work

2. Engine rebuild

3. Fabricate carbon fiber body panels

4. Welding [custom exhaust, seam weld the chassis, etc]

5. Execute some really fancy suspension and driveline ideas



Should be a fun learning experience. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> Here are some pics...

I don't, but I intend to learn and acquire what I need. Life is short! Singer was the inspiration...they shed 500 lbs from 964 C2 using carbon panels. I intend to start small with sunroof and accessories but eventually should lead to hood, fenders, mirrors, hatch frame with a lexan insert, etc. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> I wanna make cf furniture eventually too but that's another story.

Spent a bit more time with the project car today and it's really got some jank stuff from <acronym title='previous owner'>PO</acronym>'s. How about hose tubing used for front sway bar bushing? Or interior quarter window trim on the wrong window and another missing? Radiator shroud/duct is completely gone. Fuel rail cover is also gone. Cruise control box gone. I also found the distributor cap and rotor to be original 169k mile pieces with manufacturing date of 1990! The leads were almost complete disintegrated so I installed my used low-mile ones from riviera blue coupe when I replaced everything with new during head rebuild this year and the car really liked it. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> Good news is that this 968 has m030 sway bars and Koni's. I inspected the belts today and they look good with no missing teeth and balance shaft belt is still in 1 piece, though a little loose so I need to re-tension. No major surprises so far and I won't be afraid to mess anything up that's for sure!

Looks better in the photos that I would have thought..but given the last post,sure sounds like you'll have your hands full with just the basics before you get to the " fancy work " part of the project, lol . Nice, now we have six ( and occasionally seven ) 968s within a square mile :-) :-) ,
