DS,
The D type and the subsequent E type were pioneering cars, and the E type could trace its styling back to that of the D type. That Jaguar has had to "steal" design elements from other brands cars seems just wrong - particularly, for a new "halo" car. We used to deride the Japanese for their "me too" styling and copying of good cars in the 1980's. this to me seems similar and therefore a bit clumsy and derived.
Look at a Ferrari, it looks like a Ferrari. Park one painted in red and see if anyone does not know what it is. Park a Porsche 911 and see if people don't know what it is. Same for a Lamborghini and Aston Martin. These cars have a clear design language that defines them. I know that Jaguar does not have this history as a continuous lineage, but to play it so safe in a "me too" design seems disappointing.
There cannot be just elements of a car that are great, the whole thing must come together. I agree that there are some good elements, but as a whole - it is just not cohesive (in the pictures anyway).
Lots of press praise, but is this just because it is new? In 2 years time, when the novelty has worn off, will it still have the depth of skills and character to be a winner?
Once again, it seems a little Z4, SLK - nice cars, but not complete as a whole.
