You bring up a good point, mick968, about personally maintaining one's car.
In my experience among friends who own and regularly drive older vehicles, their cars aren't difficult to appreciate; they're worth keeping around.
One of the key reasons I kept this 92 Coupe out of my mother's estate (among cars I didn't keep including 1974 Jaguar XKE Roadster and a 2007 Mercedes CLK) was that the dang Porsche cost her $43k in 1992 and still offered at least $43k worth of contemporary performance!
I've been into full-sized Jeeps for about 10 years now: Grand Wagoneers, J-trucks, etc. Like the photo I've posted below, a 1982 Wag Ltd I used to own, and which I helped paint last summer for the present owner, a good friend of mine from the Army days.
As a result of the American Motors Corporation connection, I also got around with AMC guys now and then. One day, I was at a NAPA store in Elizabeth, CO, and this guy comes in with a toy dog in his arms, and a cashmere sweater wrapped over his shoulders, and starts a conversation about all the "AMC" cars out in the parking lot....
Long story short, his name was Terry Gayle. He invited me to see his collection of cars. Pretty amazing, as he had the world's largest collection of AMC, Rambler, Hudson, Nash cars. As far as you could see on his property, there were old cars mostly driveable, some not, and some of museum quality. I could tell you about a lot of cool AMC cars.
But what I most took from that visit was the thought that I would trade all of that low-brow collection for, like, 3 killer vintage Ferrari's (oopsie-daisy, I meant Porsche's!). I guess someone has to have the largest collection of AMC cars in the world, but why why why why why?
This 968 Coupe reminds me that a car worth keeping is a car worth taking car of yourself. Here's a cell-phone pic I took a few days ago:
Nice units! AMC-when a Jeep was a Jeep.Had a couple of (AMC)Jeeps.Had V8(304 c.i.) in them.What a hoot.They also had 4wd car(Eagle) ,which I had one of.Unlike the 968/Porsche,they had not figured them out(mechanical nightmares).Wifes first car was a Pacer.
