Is it possible to beef up early connecting rods?
#1

This may be a dumb question, but I was wondering if it is possible to strenghten an early style connecting rod by adding some material to the thin areas of the rod? I suspect the answer is no, but I was thinking about how oil pick-up tubes can be modified, and while the application, metal type, and manufacturing processes are very different, I was wondering if it would be possible.

Possibly (remotely possibly) but I got a set of RARST forged rods for $75 so I doubt it would be worth the effort. Even non forged 944 rods are pretty strong and those are a dime a dozen.

As these equivalent to the late, stronger 968 rods? That is a very good price.
