Hello 968 Forum members! I'm logging on from Ohio - Born and raised mostly in the Dayton area, but now located just outside of Columbus.

I'm a bit of a walking contradiction to some, as folks who are loyal to a certain make or model kinda' look at me sideways when I explain my automotive interests. Let's face it, Chevy guys hate Fords and Ford guys hate Chevys. This formula works for most rivalries. Not me. I wanna' go fast and look good and I feel that a great many manufacturers have done a hell of a job at one point or another trying to provide me with that ability. Basically, I love cars. I currently drive a 1977 Corvette, have a 1969 Mustang sportsroof (fastback) which I drove in high school, but is sitting now, and a 1967 El Camino that has never moved under its own power since it was purchased for a pittance 10 years ago. I'm a younger guy (early 30's), but I feel I've done well in my acquisition of automobiles, thus far. I mean, how many guys my age can say their first car was an Acapulco blue '69 fastback (4 years of saving and Gone in 60 Seconds hadn't inflated fastback prices yet)?

I bet you're wondering: "What the heck is this guy doing on our forum? He's got all these domestics in his stable!" Well, it's time for things to change. I've always wanted a top tier sports car (I hope you all hold Porsche in such high regard) and have longed for a 951 since I was a kid-even more than a 911. Recently, the 968 bug outgrew the 951 bug and ate it, so, here I am. My experience with cars from across the pond is limited and from completely different ends of the spectrum: My dad had a beater 924 when I was a kid that I remember being stuffed in the back of (better than being stuffed in the back of his other car, a '71 454 'Vette - it was the 80's and nanny government was in it's infancy). And the other was his 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS- a direct import from Italy with no emissions, not a US or EURO spec. model. WOW. That was a car. He acquired that more recently and during his 6 years of ownership, I didn't get stuffed in the back (I was far too big by the time high school came around, plus, even If I weren't, the authorities would've had a fit!

All that being said, I'm here to learn and meet others who share my passion for all things internally combustible. My goal is to purchase a 968 6-speed coupe sometime early in 2014. I'll probably sell the 'Vette and the El Camino to get it, but it's time to move on and experience new things.

Thanks for reading!

Welcome. I, like you started looking for a 951, but gave up, and glad I did. The 968, even though of the same lineage, is a better car. Not sure you will need to sell everything to get one, but do your homework first. Lots of great info here and people to ask questions of. If it can happen to a 968, it is probably listed here.

All the best in your search, and yes, most of us a petrol heads of some kind.

KA,

You might start scouting for "driving roads" around your area.

After an 80 924 turbo and an 86 944 NA, I also started looking for a 951. It was 1995 and I passed on many suspicious cars, even back then. I moved to S2 cabs then the 968 cab. I think you are on the right path, your chances of finding a mostly unmolested 968 are much higher than any of the 944s. Enjoy the hunt.

When you are not driving the twisty roads you will find that the 968 is a spectacular cruiser, literally consuming traffic.

Thank you all for the welcoming comments! I'm definitely hoping to pick up as much knowledge as I can before I set my budget and make my purchase. Plus, I still have lots of time to save. I'm pretty fixated on the 968 and I think the only thing that would change my mind would be a clean 951 Turbo S with great documentation. I guess I'll leave it up to the market, but I'm longing for the 968.

Welcome to the fray! Enjoy your hunt for your 968. Mine fell into my lap when a friend passed away, but it was still a two year chase and then 3 months to get it on the road. Good thing you have other cars to drive. Lots to read here and if you have trouble with the forums, there are lots of folks to help. Ask lots and read lots and good luck on your 968 search. I was lucky, mine is a 6 speed cab.

Good luck!

Some (at least one) of us on this forum would considering theirs to someone like yourself who would take good care of it. I would venture to bet those on this forum have taken good care. So, might be a good place to look.
