Interior panel cleaning advice
#1

Not for the 968, but my daughter's 04 325i has a light gray interior, and the interior panels are looking pretty dingy. Any suggestions as to the best way to get them clean? Thanks.

i use 409 to clean vinyl, but not leather. soap and water for leather.

apply the appropriate treatment afterward (i like 303 for vinyl and cpr for leather)

Thanks, but what exactly is 409? Do you mean Formula 409? Or some specialized product? Thanks

Vinylex and a magic eraser does wonders

Not sure what Vinylex is, but I'm leery of Magic Eraser, because it's pretty abrasive, and I'm afraid it will smooth out the vinyl grains. What about using some kind of soft brush to get into the low spots of the grains?

Magic Eraser and Vinylex is amazing. I've used it on many cars without issues. Scuffs just disappear off those areas that get nicked with the soles of your shoes. I wouldn't necessarily use it on the dash or any hard plastic surfaces, but for textured vinyl areas, it's the best solution.

I use Lexol leather cleaner and their leather conditioner on anything leather. Use the leather cleaner with a clean terry both rag and enough water to make suds, and it does wonders. After you condition it, it will look and feel like new.

I have no affiliation with Lexol, just a big fan of their products :-)

i am not happy with magic eraser at all on the vinyl. it tore off a bit of the finish on the top of the door panel.

You must be really rubbing hard to make it tear off vinyl. I use it lightly, and just a couple of swipes remove any dirt and scuffs. Works really well.

I guess the moral of the story, as with any product, its how you use it. YMMV

it didn't tear off the vinyl. like all vinyls, there is a finish coat on the vinyl. the rough sponge took it off. i suppose i could try to spray it back on (assuming i could find it, as it is NOT a spray paint, but rather more like a flexible varnish), but i am afraid that it would end up being spotty.

I had the same experience as Flash with magic eraser. It removed the finish coat, and left the surface with a blotchy, uneven appearance. Maybe the finish coat was already wearing thin on the panel I was using it on, but it made me leery of using magic eraser on textured vinyl surfaces.

And I'm sure Lexol is a fine product, but the last few times I've used the cleaner, it was just plain ineffective. Didn't get the leather clean at all. Maybe the bottle I have is too old (actually, it's very, very old).
