Interior - Leather vs. non-Leather
#1

I just picked up my '95 Coupe this past weekend. The black interior looks in great shape and I want to keep it that way. I have always used a good leather conditioner for the leather in other cars and 303 Protectant on the plastic stuff. It looks like the dash is not leather, the door panels are a mix and the seats are? The seat backs look non-leather though. Can someone give me the scoop? My option codes do not include full-leather.

Thanks,

Travis

Hey Travis,

I do not have full leather in my car either and if our cars are the same then the only leather in the car will be the Shift boot and the seats with the back being vinyl. Be careful when treating the backs of the seats with vinyl protector because it can become very shiny.

For the Dash, doors and seat backs...pretty much everything, I use Meguiar's Quick Detailer Interior because it doesn't leave a shiny residue. For the leather I use Gold Class Learther cleaner & Conditioner because it smells quite luxurious.

For the exterior I can highly recommend the zymol range (They even have a polish specifically formulated for Porsches). It's easy to apply and it produces a really deep shine.

Regards,

Johann

the best suff for leather i have ever seen, having tried countless types, and i am not a believer in "wonder goos" is Leather CPR

there are a few different ones that i have had success with on the vinyl - currently i am using 303

I have big tubs of Lexol cleaner and conditioner for leather and another big tub of Lexol Vinylex. The leather stuff seems to be decent as is the Vinylex, but I purchased a container of the CPR based on Bob's recommendation. Just haven't tried it yet. I will also switch to 303 Aerospace Protectant for interior vinyl in the very near future. From everything I have seen, 303 is the stuff to use- I probably see this stuff mentioned as the professional's choice more than 75% of the time- it must therefore be good...

use a clean wet rag to really wipe the seats down really well before using CPR for the first time - smear it on fairly generously, but don't leave globs - let it sit - do not wipe it off or rub it in - it may take more than one application to really revitalize the leather - it soaks in really well though - in fact, without doing anything else, the difference between 15 minutes after you apply it and the next morning is almost bizarre - when you're done though, you'll be amazed

i've been using 303 for about 25 years - i've bounced to other stuff, found some that work and some that suck - i'm back to 303 - getting harder to find though - figures

So you just leave the CPR on and never take it off? I am assuming at some point, the leather will reach saturation...

Does the CPR cause any problems on other materials, say if I were to accidentally let some sit on the vinyl sides of the seat?

yup - just leave it on - you can sit on it as soon as you can't see it anymore - yes, it will reach a saturation point - you will find that very easily, and it is easy to maintain - i put it on every couple of months - takes 5 minutes tops

no issues with other materials - just wipe it off because it won't sink in - it can stain some fabrics though, so i would be careful about that - washes out though if you get it quickly

Thanks for the all the advice. I'll pick up some of the CPR. However <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />, back to my original question... The only leather are the seat fronts and the shifter boot? Everything else is vinyl?

Yes, my steering wheel is leather too, but I think my handbrake is covered with vinyl.

mine also "looks" like vinyl - however, in the porsche sales book handed out at the time of the car's release to the dealers, it specifically says it's leather - maybe this changed very early
