Interior - Before & After
#21

I know it may sounds stupid but what kind of seat cover did you have done? I mean is it some thing that went over the original seats? I have only had seat covers once and they slid all over the seat and looked terrible. Yours look like new seats, beautiful job

technically speaking, the OEM upholstery is "covers". i think that was what was meant.

I just finished installing World Upholstery leather covers. Great quality product. Great fit. this was a decent weekend project.

I'm thankful that the seat frames and foam were in good shape. Hog rings, hog ring pliers and a lot of patience are all that are required.

Some sitting in the sun will shrink things up.

Dave, did you replace the foam as well or just the covers? Rough cost? I may have to add another upgrade to the list.......

The foam (20 years old) was is in great shape. The lower cushion bolsters have some tissue thin tissue-like material on them that separates the leather from the foam. The intent is to prevent the leather from grabbing and tearing the foam. Next time I will plan on replacing this fabric as part of the recovering process. It's visible in the photos of the bottom seat cushion.

The covers are from World Upholstery. Cost is roughly 1 PMU. Fit is exceptional. I couldn't be happier with the materials, fit, and construction of the covers. Just a little over a week from order to delivery. They provided samples of the materials prior to the order to ensure color match.

The fidelity to original is very good. If you're handy at all, this is not a difficult job. if you're not handy, The covers could be installed by a local upholstery shop. No one will be the wiser that your seats weren't OEM original.

Check the thread on 968 acronyms. PMU - Porsche Monetary Unit. 1 PMU = $1,000 <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/beer.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Thanks, Dave. I guess that's less expensive than a new Porsche.... I'll add it to the list.

Dave,

What did the seat cover look like before you put it on the seat? In other words, I assume the pattern/stitching on the back and bottom of the seat, where you sit, is already there? They look great.

The covers were sewn up using patters that were similar to original. Tailoring is the same. Perforated leather inserts with the radius design element as per stock. I chose the color from samples he sent me. Color is pretty much dead nuts on. it's not quite a slip cover. This is essentially a reverse engineering job. I spent a lot of time looking at how the seat was constructed and how the covers were installed over the foam cushions. There are some unique construction elements. The covers fit the existing cushions very well.

I spent last night with a heat gun taking the wrinkles out. Takes some finesse and a lot more heat than I anticipated. I am very happy with the outcome.
