First bath after D1R SC install, Veloce 3.6's mounted
#1

Finally got an afternoon to properly bathe the car. For those not following, I had a slight mishap on the drive home from the shop who installed the kit. Short story: there was one hose that was not secured down completely, it slipped off 15 miles down the road, and I began dumping boost into the engine bay and out the exhaust in the form of sooty black gunk. I wiped the majority of the gunk off the back of the car, but the bath finally came today. Luckily I have a paint job in the near future, so I wasn't as concerned about this as I could have been. 20-year old paint doesn't look as bad as it could, but I'm ready to go something more interesting than white.

Cool. If it is going to be something more interesting than white - Rubystone red? I like a white 968, it has a purity about it.

The car looks pretty hot as it is.

Must say your cab doesn't look in need of a paint job. Normally white is not my fav. colour for any car (although it look's great on Eddy Merckx's 1969 Faema frame) but with your C2 Turbo (Cup 1) style split rims it looks great.

Thanks, guys. It doesn't look too bad in the pics.... in person you can really see the imperfections, the rock chips, the discolorization. I'm thinking Metallic Cobalt Blue or Tahoe Blue... or maybe Estoril Blue.

From a white car owner it looks pretty good. White is the most popular color in the US!

From the owner of a white car who read an article about white being the most popular car color. Sorry for the poor sentence construction. Lol

have you ever thought of giving it a premium detail? Wash , clay, compound, polish, wax. I've seen paint in worse condition be restored and shine like new. if you have the time to DIY, its a small but satisfying investment.

Even if you still move forward with the re-paint the car will look so much better "now" and you'll still make good use of the products on your other cars as well as your new paint when its done.

Bob shamed me into responding. That's a lot of work but well worth it!

Not a bad idea. I might just do that.

Still gonna go blue though. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

BTW, I went out and checked those hoses.... the small one was a b!tch. Couldn't get it off, but it is by far the worst in terms of spacing/crimping. I got the medium and big one to budge around and they are in better shape. Thinking of putting a extra brace on the hose at the bend to give it extra support and not bind like that.

or you could cut the hose a few inches up, and install a 90 degree fitting from pep boys. it's just a breather hose

I actually rounded the hose by putting another hose clamp at the bend point to force it to take the corner nicely.

I am going to do that to the largest (1") hose. The mods for the 3/4" and 5/8" hoses just got purchased. Using a PVC rubber 90 degree elbow for the 5/8" and a curved hose for the 3/4". Some PVC couplers to connect the kit hoses, should be in order. Going to install later this evening when the car cools down. Pics forthcoming.

pvc rubber? you mean plastic, right? i was talking about the barbed elbows that are in the help section of most auto stores. those will work. i have no idea about the viability of any rubber parts. some rubbers are not compatible with fuel vapor. i had to choose the hoses i did for that reason, which is why they are so thick and tend to kink
