Interesting article on used Ferraris

For those of you in the market, I ran across this article today on the pitfalls of shopping for a used Ferrari. I didn't realize, although it makes sense, that you have to remove the engine to change the belts (which must be done frequently) on all of the mid-engined models through the 355. Ouch! And that's often just the beginning of the fun. Seems like the 360 is in the sweet spot (if you can call a $70K used car sweet) for having seen a reasonable amount of depreciation, and having at least a chance of not draining you dry from repair costs.

this is the ONLY reason i am not driving a ferrari right now - i am still getting pulled toward either a 355 or a 360 - i like them both for different reasons, and will probably go with the 360, if and when i get another ferrari

Ive thought about getting a 328, or 308. You can service them without removing the engine. Add some boost, and they're pretty fast. Good lookin cars too. Id have to part with my Porsche's though, dont think I could do that. Id rather have my 951, and 968.

The Audi dealer in Brisbane where we used to get our car serviced (when we were on that side of the country) was also the Bentley and Ferrari dealer. We got to discussing the new 458 and I asked how much the servicing was - I was told $8,000 per service. I had to ask if this was an engine rebuild and what the hell you had to do to justify $8,000 for a service. The old addage - if you have to ask, you cannot afford it must apply to Ferrari's.



I have an old work colleague who put his V8 BMW M3 in for its first service (past the free one) and when he picked it up, the dealer gave him a bill for $2,500. He naturally flipped - to which the dealer responded, "oh - your was cheap, obviously you don't drive the car hard as we normally have to also replace the front rotors and this adds another $2,500 to the bill".



I could not own a car that cost that much to service. It is just obscene.

One of the editors in Road & Track just did a short article about his want for a 308/328 for the same reasons a few months ago...

Funny, I've never liked them, never wanted one, and still don't... They just strike me as impractical - even beyond P-car terms - and I feel they have a high DB factor.
