Insurance Suggestions?
#1

I discovered this week that AAA will not go over the price paid for my 968 for evaluation purposes. Since I purchased it years ago, it is currently underinsured. I tried Haggerty, but their online application system seem to want to insure all of my cars for all of our drivers, which is not happening. Furthermore, how do they even KNOW what I own and who has a drivers license in our home?

Big-Brother issues aside, any suggestions from the group? Do I need to talk directly with Haggerty? Should I try another provider?

I have the info at home, but my agreed value policy ( currently at $ 50 K if totaled , with a $ 1 K deductible,  for only about $ 250 annual premium ) is issued by AIG , via a broker whose name escapes me at the moment ( used to be affiliated with Barrett-Jackson but spun off a few years ago ).  No requirement to insure anything other that even just the physical damage and theft on the car, as long as you have liability as part of some other policy or multi-car policy, and the only restrictions ,IIRC, are :   1) it may not be tracked / raced   2)  it may not be driven by someone under 25 years old, except in case of emergencies,  3) depending on your zip code there may be a requirement that the car is garaged ( enclosed ) at night and 4) annual mileage should be less than 5 K.     I'll post the broker info later tonight, but keep in mind the premiums can vary VASTLY depending on age, family status, number of other cars, driving record ( regardless of which car ) , and residence location.

I haven't had a speeding violation or red light or stop light , etc. citation is 32 years  ( aka I haven't been caught in 32 years  :glare:  ) , nor an accident caused by me,  so maybe that contributes to the $ 250 cheap insurance.

I just got Hagertys for something like $750/yr based on a $35k stated value.  During the online app, they do ask for all the drivers, but if you read the fine print, it says it's just for info and it does not count towards the insurance (just like a previous poster mentioned).  FYI, I have a good insurance broker and he shopped it and could not find a better policy.  In my opinion, I think it's a good rate so I guess there's a reason why they are so popular with old cars!

If you are a PCA member, you can get it through Leland West. I have my 968 valued at $31,000 and 928 at $18,000 for less than $800/yr. Just another option.

I too have Leland West - on my 914 - agreed value policy at $20k is something like $270/year.

The limits are that I can't go over 6000mi/year (heh, it's been driven like 80 miles in 18 months due to a starting problem) and I can only take it to work twice a week.

I had to send pics of the car and my garage, and explain mods, but no formal appraisal was ever needed.

Here's another for Hagerty.

They insure my '85 911, my '88 924S, and my 968.  Agreed value policies.

I ended up going with Hagerty. 2.5 times the coverage I was getting at AAA, for 50 bucks less a year. The person I spoke with in Michigan was great. She really knew cars and what was happening with the 968 market, and she made the process simple and very easy.

Thanks for all the input, now I feel like taking a drive!

I'm a bit late but had Hagerty for about 3 years with $25,000 Agreed Value for roughly $750/yr.  Recently I was able to move it over to my Auto-Owners Auto Policy that my Daily Driver & Motorcycle are on and upped the Agreed Value to $30,000 for roughly $250/yr.  (those are just my prices everyone's location, driving history, insurance score are different)

Thanks, Dan
