My favorite road trip driving shoes finally bit the dust, I think it was clamoring out of some big hole in the ground in CA that finished them off. So I was curious what people are wearing these days for road trips. Need to be very comfortable for long drives, excellent sole grip on the petals, light weight. And must not cost more than my 968's tires.

They aren't driving shoes in the true sense, but they are soooooo comfortable.  Johnston and Murphy makes these McGuffey woven slip ons:

Good looking shoe. I don't think Dan would be caught dead in these. Can you imagine one of Dan's buddies asking, " Yo honcho, how much dem puppies cost"? He would get beet red and wonder whether he should inflate the price merely to save face. He is must too intelligent to back himself into a corner like this on the front end.

Must cost less than a set of tires. Bruno Magli has a beautiful pair that I also disqualified.

How non-slip are the soles? They don't appear any gripper than the topsiders I wear. I would wear year round but not too concerned about wet, it doesn't rain in AZ.

Ugh, I hate ostrich belts, shoes, watch bands etc.. would not be caught dead wearing those, I think any decent loafers with textured rubber soles will do - Saks or Neiman sells very good quality ones , many on their own brand , for about $ 200 - $ 250 . My loafers and " driving shoes " of choice is JP Tod ( nowadays simply known as Tod's ) , I do currently have a fairly decent collection of those. I don't have any real driving shoes ( Piloti or similar ) , have no reason to wear those .

Since I am unable to tie my shoes for the next six weeks due to surgery on right hand, I'm wearing a pair of ECCO slip ons that also make a fine driving shoe. Perforated leather toe cap keeps my feet comfortable.

 

Also have a pair of ECCO sneakers that are pretty good to driven in and I have a pair of no name Italian driving shoes if I need a dressier look when driving the Porsche.

Ecco's are definitely my go-to shoes as well.  I have very wide feet (which really help with the misnamed heel-and-toe downshifts), and Ecco's run wide, so they're a great fit for me.

If you are feeling adventurous, pretend your Ds, huntzinger has some cool driving shoes in Porsche colors. Reasonably priced. Course if you’re not way cool, think Ds, don’t bother. I got the martini color. I think my car goes faster now.

I'm definately in the same style category as Dan. As evidence I own three watches, a Seiko for indoors, a Timex for outdoors and a Rolex knock-off from Hong Kong for dress-up. And I'm considering the ostriche shoes too.

Cole Haan has a nice croc driving shoe. You know Dan has a watch for every daily ensemble he selects. The mans a clothes horse extrodanier. Watch’s, shoes, cars and hats. He is my personal role model.

JP Tods cost only 2 tires. I may have to set my disqualification limit a little lower. But, they look great, esp in orange!
