Idle Control Valve
#1

Car has started to play up this week, with the dreaded rising, and falling Idle, and or no idle when started from cold, I'm suspecting the ICV, have stripped it down cleaned through with carb cleaner, no difference, valve seems to be running very erratically, and starting/stopping. My local OPC wants over £350 ( $533!) for a new unit!!, having a look about the t'internet, there seems to be a lot of Bosch ICV's for sale which cosmetically look the same and at prices that are far more acceptable £30 to £60. ($45 to $90)

the part number from the label reads as 028014053 ? but as the label has been damaged by the clamp, its difficult to confirm. Does anyone know the part number?, and has anybody been able to source this item, or an equivalent from 'another' car model? for example the ICV used on the Porsche 928 looks exactly the same and retails for about £40 !

I had a 968 on which was fitted a BMW E30 idle valve and it worked fine. The 928 part is worth a try IMO, and I think there is a Saab 900 or 9000 part that appears compatible also.

Next I'll tell you about the Volvo 960 MAF that fits and works...

Thank you Joel,

I'm always interested in this sort of thing!, it annoys the he'll out of me getting parts for this car and being charged a premium, just because of it's badge on the bonnet.

Even more so when it's a standard auto part from an OEM. So what's the MAF part I need to seek out?? lol!

regards. Andy

Well today I received a new replacement idle control valve Bosch part number 0280140505, its for a Hyundai Accent Lantra S Coupe, but its all but IDENTICAL to the Bosch unit fitted to the 968, If you've ever done this job its a real fiddle to do because of the access to the valve. Anyway all fitted, car runs like a dream!, Idle is now smooth and steady, at around 850/900 rpm when up to temp. well pleased!, and without spending £350 from my OPC!. the cost of the part?? £49 via Ebay. I have another coming as a spare. Eurocarparts wanted £180.00+vat for the OEM unit, and that was still a 10 day wait to order item.

So It pays to do some internet searching. the Ebay number was 200329451577

I think we need to start a topic where we list cheap replacement parts. Awesome find by the way!

That's a great idea. I'm running out of room in my brain always trying to remember who found what where and for what problem avoiding the OEM pricing on parts.
